INCOMING!!!

Facebook and other social media are about to blow up.

Here's just the first taste of it:

-----

Me:

Don't let the Gov't shutdown distract you from the real news of the day: Today is the first day for those who are uninsured to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. "Obamacare.&quot

Pothead:

Obamacare is a joke. (Like · 1)

Likely Fox News Viewer:

A much older gentlemen came up to me today, "Hey Larry, my coverage i use to get for free will now cost me under the ACA plans." ...................This gentlemen is a senior, veteran, and is losing his paid coverage. ACA good point?

Guy with at least a few properly working brain cells:

I'm with you on that one...Go sign up!

Me:

Ah, Pothead... You say that now. My girlfriend just racked up $53,000 in hospital costs for an emergency appendectomy -Obamacare would have prevented that situation for her. It may not be perfect but it is only the beginning. It will be improved upon - but in the mean time if I were you I'd get signed up just in case your appendix bursts too (or anything else happens - it's really a question of when, not if).

Pothead:

If you say so... If it's so great, why is everyone in government office exempt from it? It's a complete sham! Obamacare is not the same as universal healthcare.

Me:

Everyone who already has insurance through their employer - whether government or not - is exempt from signing up. The point of the law is to make health insurance available to those who could not get it before. Yes, I know it's not the same as Universal healthcare and I know it has problems that will need to be worked out. I also know, however, that a self-employed person such as myself who could never hope to afford health insurance can now get it.

Pothead:

It's a government sham. It's about population control.

(Me: Screw it, I'm not arguing with Pothead anymore - as fond as I am of him, it's just not worth my time.)
