GOP Staff: Congress 'Threw Staff Under The Bus' (eliminating their health insurance subsidies)

Some congressional Republican staff members aren't happy about the vote their bosses will take this evening to eliminate their health insurance subsidies.

"I understand it politically, and as a talking point," one Republican staffer told Mother Jones. "But Congress literally threw staff under the bus on this…You're hurting staff assistants who are sorting your mail."

The House's latest spending bill would delay Obamacare's individual mandate for one year and eliminate subsidies for Congress members and their staff. A vote is expected sometime around 8 p.m. ET.

GOP Staffer on Vitter Amendment: "Congress Literally Threw Staff Under The Bus

(snip)
A recent survey found that 63 percent of Hill staffers want to leave their jobs because of the low pay and long hours. And that's before losing health insurance benefits.

The GOP, in its all-out-effort to undermine Obamacare, could end up harming its own people. "I'm a perfectly healthy guy," the staffer says, "but there are people (in my office) who use (insurance) and need it and depend on it."

Actually kind of makes me wish we could do things like in the movie Scaramouche with Stewart Granger. It would clear out the republicans in a hurry.

Congress did not "literally" throw the staff or anything else under a bus. They did this FIGURATIVELY. Thank you.

They won. Language lost. It may be time to let society fail and start over.

This literally makes me want to...seethe.

* - Irony: A huge Apple billboard in San Francisco played its part in the mainstream acceptance of the word (the funnest iPod yet!), but the iPad I'm using to enter this post wants to autocorrect to "funniest".

39. That's why the only dictionary I use was published in 1958. Couldn't read Mehlville, Poe, or...

Hawthorne without it. They keep adding crap words and deleting words that are in the classics. I'd hate to see what would happen if they start updating those stories with modern language.

16. I don't get their outrage

I get GOP voters not understanding the purpose of the party, but the staffers? You're working for a bunch of loons who follow a guy who wants to drown the federal government in a bathtub. They've taken over 40 votes to repeal this law. How the hell did you not see this coming?

Having said the above, I realize it's not helpful. The cognitive dissonance required to be shocked or outraged at this behavior just baffles me. It's like jumping into the lion pen at the zoo and being surprised when you get mauled.

who worked for Republican members of Congress. By and large, they acted like a much of entitled, spoiled brats. They hated "welfare" unless it benefitted them. Now they're whining about subsidies!! The nerve of them!! They want to see to it that other Americans don't have access to these subsidies but they do?? Damn them to hell for their hypocrisy!!!

44. HA! Political science and public policy of all things. And guess what the topic of the entire

semester was for one of the years? Yes, you guessed it! I divided the class into 5 groups. 3 groups covered the 3 different House versions of a health care bill, each one offering some sort of public option and/or single payer. The 2 other groups covering the two Senate versions of the health care proposals, one the Harkin proposal, the other the Baucus proposal.

My goal was not only for them to get away from Faux News talking points but also so that I could learn.

Other years were different. One year on the Stimulus bills. It all depends on what was going on in Congress at any given time.

Teaching was fun but very frustrating. I stopped because I lost enthusiasm for it. I had to hide my political leanings and remain neutral most of the time, which actually was easier than I thought. But the systematic dumbing down of our children is very real.

4. If you're not going to tip your server, at least don't leave a sanctimonious note

35. In thinking of a staffer...

I am reminded once again of that old joke about the millionaire sitting next to the high society lady at a dinner.

He leans over and asks her if she'd sleep with him for a million dollars. She thinks for a minute and says yes.

Then the millionaire asks if she'd do it for $50. Indignant, she ask just what he thinks she is.

His reply "We've already established that, madam, now we're haggling over the price".

Watching Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt giving commentary on anything turns my stomach. They both tried to take the high road for what they did during the election, making fun of Palin and McCain -- after it was over.

It's easy to stand on your principles when it doesn't matter. If you don't when it does matter it proves you didn't have much to start with.

Why aren't these staff assholes furloughed? Let the ones with the broomstick up their ass get their own coffee and find their own ride to work.
