Daydream Believer

******

I know it is lip synced, they were not playing their own instruments, and it is very bubble gum pop
but I always liked it.

"Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings of the bluebird as she sings
The six o'clock alarm would never ring
But it rings and I rise wipe the sleep out of my eyes
The shavin' razor's cold, and it stings

Cheer up, sleepy Jean, oh what can it mean
To a daydream believer and a homecoming queen?"

Sleep well Davy Jones you gave the world a lot of smiles.

And also underrated as lightweight "Beatles wannabes". Some lovely music and lyrics accompanied their shows. This is sad.

When the subject of working as "a Monkee" came up he got a smile on his
face and said that he always saw himself as a working actor and when somebody
offers you steady work and for good pay you take it. i guess he had worked a lot
of crap jobs before the monkees.

The guy could sing. 8 shows a week on both London and Broadway. Ya don't get that job if ya can't carry a tune.

He was only six years older than I am.

He was my favorite Monkee. It seems like a hundred years ago, and I want to cry.

Playing kick the can, sledding, hanging out w/ the "grown up kids" aka high schoolers
as they smoked cigs, Dad's Root Beer, and listening to some really good music ....
and then one day a car w/ a Marine officer and an Episcopal priest came to the end
of our street to tell a family that their son* had died in Vietnam and then nothing was the
same.

I still stop and think back when I hear "Sloop John B" and I can almost see the faces and
remember the good times.

* One of the older kids.

sorry I didn't mean to ramble.

Damn, that does trigger memories.
Still a big fan of folk, especially The Kingston Trio.
And Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Coplas
The Merry Minuet.
(still relevant today)

Where have all the flowers gone?

When I now think of the records we had among the neighborhood kids it
was pretty wild .... Motown, Beatles, Beach Boys, The Hollies, The Song
"Spooky", Monkees, and some of that crazy hippy music from California ...
we danced and had "girl friends" and played kick the can or something
till it was bedtime. When I look back I now know we were rich in so many ways.

And the later Monkees were actually written by either Tork or Nesmith, so, no it wasn't all lip-synch.

That said, R.I.P. Davy. Hope you sing at that big prom in the sky.

He was a singer prior to the Monkees.

It's actually one of the better songs from that era...a lot of their songs were...couldn't be otherwise with the likes Of Neil Diamond and Carole King writing a few of them.

I love Mike Nesmith's tie into his guitar strings and Mickey laughing
his ass off as he pretended to play the tambourine. He really looks stoned.
