Remember the "Snowe trigger" public option that was floated during the health care debate?

Of course it never made it into the final bill and was not really supported much on DU.

Now I wonder if we would have been better off putting it into the final bill that had emerged. At least then we could have passed the bill and then commenced a massive lobbying and PR campaign over the next 2-3 years to get that trigger pulled. At least then there would have been a chance of a public option.
