5. Thats really weird.

Just tried mine with safari and its fine. Im scratching my head here. Im thinking its got to be a CSS (style sheet) thing but the browser handles those. huh.

6. Thanks for looking into it and reporting back. Every line on the left is lined out and it's

distracting, but I can still read what is there. I scrolled down the whole page just to be sure.

13. Thought so.

Theres a way to fix this in firefox if you download the "web developer extension". I dont know how much you want to get into it though. If you want it, you can find it here: http://chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/

After you install it, you will find a menu (2 actually) under the firefox tab. Click the menu that says "web developer extension" and youll see a sub-menu for CSS. Then click "edit css". When the pane pops up, look for this bit of code:

{text-decoration:line-through}

and delete it. I have a strong suspicion that will work for you.

on edit: try what make7 said in post #9 first. Trash a thread by clicking the little box with the x in it at the end of the thread title.

16. OK, I tried, but got: "This add-on is not compatible with your version of Firefox."

Then came back and found your edit about what make7 said. I'll look for the X.

9. Does it start at NYC_SKP's thread?

The DU Lounge

Try going to his thread and trashing it...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1018468897

... then reload the Greatest page and see if the strike-through text is gone.

15. Weird - that post is the only thing at first glance that might do that.

Basically someone made a typo in a reply that inadverantly put an HTML tag in their title causing weirdness and NYC_SKP make a joke thread in the lounge by copying that typo - but later edited it to something different. What he changed it to could possibly, maybe cause strike-through text - that's why I suggested trashing that thread in particular.

17. OK, I trashed the thread, but didn't block NYC_SKP or put him on on ignore, then

went back to Greatest Page, and the lines are still there. I wonder why they are on my screen but not other folks.

(Sorry NYC_SKP, I have never trashed a thread before, nothing against you.)

12. How do you "trash" a thread?

(Other than a verbal rant...)

14. Click on the link to view the OP...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1018468897

... and hit the Trash this thread button near the bottom left of the OP (by the Alert abuse link).

Trashing a thread disappears it from the forum listings (and Latest and Greatest).

which turned to "refresh this page" after I clicked. Then when I went to the Greatest Threads the lines were gone. THANK YOU Make7.

22. well, they all came back, the 'congratulations' thread was still trashed and now even the

menu on the far left had lines through it, but they are not through them on this page, just the Greatest Page...???

Edit. That's strange, I didn't do anything but look at the 'congratulations' thread and they are all gone again.

23. Replied before I saw your edit.

You may be seeing a cached version of the Greatest page when the lines reappear. (Caching just means your browser stores webpage information on your computer so it doesn't have to download the same information over and over from the internet to view a page you already visited.)

My post before my edit:

The strike-through text has to start somewhere.

It looks like the columns are displayed in the following order:
  • rightmost 'Greatest Threads (sorted by recs)';
  • then center 'Greatest Threads (sorted by time)';
  • followed by the left hand forum navigation menu ('Main', 'My Subscriptions', etc.)
If the strike-through text is at the top of the center column, 'Greatest Threads (sorted by time)', then search down the right hand column, 'Greatest Threads (sorted by recs)', until you see the strike-through text. What line does it start at, and what letter within that line?

24. Thanks, I went away for dinner and stuff, but the lines are not there when I just checked.

So you may have it right that a cached page showed up. I didn't notice any lines through posts on the right side, sorted ty recs. But did notice the right side was longer than the left and wondered about that.
