Today I figured some of the rage from the right

I went to cover an annual lecture at the Jefferson School of Law at an annual conference on women and the law.

Today's keynote was Sarah Weddington... who as a young lawyer argued Roe v Wade... and she was talking about THAT WORLD she grew up in. Yes, I wrote quite a bit into the story... but appart of sounding almost comical to our modern day ears, I had to think back to ANOTHER conversation I had with a fellow student at San Diego State back in the dark ages.

That weekend I took care of a woman who was in septic shock due to a botched abortion. Sadly, we lost her. I was taking at the time a class on women's studies... one of those optional classes... extra credits. We were covering the Equal Right Amendment at the time. Well the conversation went back to that... and Roe... and what sent me back memory lane was a comment by Dr. Weddington today, on how this is losing it's power...

Well one of my classmates back then said, "well it is not like they will do that HERE... only in Mexico..."

Well, listening to her make me realize what the far right wants, in a very crystal way. Your innards are your meal ticket... and women should be seen but not heard. That is what they want.

This is what all these attacks are about.

do they think their mothers and wifes should only be seen and not heard?

the only thing that is saving their white pasty asses is that a whole lot of young women do not vote.

...sanctioning medically safe abortions. If a woman dies from e coli poisoning from a botched back alley abortion, that's her punishment according to some people.

I think they should most definitely be available for rape victims, women with health complications, and underage girls who aren't mature enough to safely rear a child.

Safe sex should also be taught alongside abstinence to limit unwanted pregnancy. I don't get why they're attacking contraception now. This is the 21st century. Yah, it would be nice if people did try to wait for the right person, but people make mistakes.

I really don't get the objection to the morning after pill. There's is no debating that at that point, its just a clump of cells that hasn't even attached to the uterine wall yet.

The demeaning and abusive language they use toward so many DU women is proof of the hatred of women. Not only are they perpetually sour on life, but they hate women.

5. Dead on. They want to make women second-class citizens again.

In 2010 they ran on "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs." They won, so all the sudden they forget about jobs and instead relentlessly go after women.

Please note that the alleged party of "get big government off our backs" has no problem with the idea of big government requiring women to be violated with a vaginal probe.

They want to take away every hard fought gain in women's equality since Margaret Sanger.

It infuriates me.

My 90 year old mother-in-law doesn't really keep up with politics anymore. She asked me what was happening with the Republican primary the other day. I said "you are not going to believe this, but one the major issues for the Republican party is Birth Control. And going after Planned Parenthood. This is 2012, not 1916." She was shocked as hell that anybody is even talking about this stuff. And it pissed her off, especially the efforts to destroy Planned Parenthood.

The only thing that gives me hope - these people and their policies are so far out of the mainstream that I do not see how they can be elected again.

It really strengthens my resolve to do as much GOTV as I can for 2012. House, Senate, and Presidency in the hand of these lunatics? Unthinkable.
