Acts of Random Kindess:

Your mission for the day is to go out and do one act of random kindess to better the world for someone. It doesn't have to be as expensive as buying new tires; small kindnesses sometimes cause huge results.

2. I hitchhiked across the country many years ago...

...with my girlfriend. From Buffalo to San Francisco.
We got lots of rides, and people were all very nice.
One truck driver took us from Fort Smith AR, all the way to Albuquerque.
We stopped at a truck stop along the way, and my girlfriend and I had no money.
We said "Thanks for the ride, we'll just hitch another ride from someone else who can take us a little further."

He was like, "No. You both come inside and I'm gonna buy you each the Blue Plate Special with the works."
My girlfriend was nervous, because she thought that this meant that he was gonna ask her for a blowjob or something later on, but we ate anyway. He bought a bunch of drinks and snacks for all of us as we were leaving and we all got back in the truck.

We got to Albuquerque and he had to unload his truck so we thanked him for the ride and for the food. He said "Look, that food wasn't free. You will find yourselves in a situation where you can do something similar for someone else, even if it's years from now. That's the cost of those Blue Plate Specials."

I've paid it forward a number of times already, and today would be a great day to do something else like that for someone...

3. I do believe the word is kindness.

Isn't Kindess a character in the Hunger Games?

5. Pay it forward sounds like a good idea and all...

but then Haley Joel Osment gets shanked by a gangbanger and then I'm not so sure.

6. I relocated a big snapping turtle from a paved

parking lot to a wet grassy area this morning if that counts. I threw a towel over it before I picked it up because it kept snapping at me.

11. Those suckers can turn so fast! Have removed, or tried to, many snappers, many too heavy for me to

even lift. I just keep annoying them until they finally move off the road if too big.

15. I walked a baby snake from a dusty sidewalk in 105 degree weather a couple of blocks to a creek

I do believe he was ecstatic when he swam off!

7. I'm due! I will do it.

A woman paid a street vendor for a bag of cherries for me when I didn't have the cash on hand. I have to pass it on. I will, I promise.

8. The world would be a much better place

if everyone did things like this.

The first couple of years after my father died (I was nine at the time) the only way we had turkey for TG and Xmas was because the church in the small town we lived in gave us one. For the last ten years my wife and I have donated two dozen turkeys and spend several hours packing boxes at the local food charity. I plan to do this for the rest of my life.

16. Pay it forward. That's life and how to live it.

It's not what you have, it's what you give away. It's how do you make things better for others.

What a great post. Shoot this to the top of the Greatest of all time.
