Santorum Uses Hitler Analogy To Describe Obama - RawStory

Santorum uses Hitler analogy to describe Obama
By David Edwards - RawStory
Monday, February 20, 2012 10:23 EST

<snip>

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Sunday likened the upcoming U.S. election to World War II.

While the candidate’s comments to a packed First Redeemer Church in Cumming, Georgia were somewhat vague, NBC news noted that he “seemed to compare President Obama to Hitler.” The former Pennsylvania senator told his supporters that this election was like World War II, “where our closest ally, Britain, was being bombed and leveled.”

“And America sat from 1940 when France fell to December of ’41 and did almost nothing,” he explained. “Why? Because we’re a hopeful people. We think, ‘You know it will get better. Yeah, I mean, he’s a nice guy. It won’t be near as bad as what we think. You know, this will be OK. You know, maybe he’s not the best guy.’ After a while, you found out some things about this guy over in Europe and maybe he’s not so good of a guy after all. But you know what? ‘Why do we need to be involved? We’ll just take care of our own problems, just get our families off to work and our kids off to school and we’ll be OK.’”

The candidate added: “Sometimes, sometimes it’s not OK.”

As BuzzFeed pointed out earlier this year, it’s not the first time Santorum has compared his opponents to Adolph Hitler...

4. Godwin's law apparently does not apply to Republicans or conservatives ...

now if you were a Democrat who correctly pointed out that the tortures we were hearing about reminded you of things you heard about in Europe in the 1940s, then you would be crucified, run out of town on a rail, and never be allowed to make a peep.

Next he'll be talking about the war in Heaven comparing himself to God and Obama and his supporters to Satan anm his dark angels.

The Law itself simply states "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."

Santorum was a loser before this, anyway

I want little ricky to keep spewing this crap to his brain-dead followers and pulling some fence-sitters away from 'thet thar godless mormun' Romney and become the defacto, no-doubts-about-it, 'what you see is what you get', 'Ahm here. Ahm here. Let the bells ring out and the banners fly - feast your eyes on me, it's too good to be true, but ahm here!', honest to gosh, in your face representative of the MODERN REPUBLICAN PARTY!

Then, I want him to lead that slobbering gaggle of crawling turds that is the modern day republican party to utter and complete destruction, and possibly even extinction, in a head-to-head contest against Obama.

I want it as much as I have ever wanted anything in my entire life.

....but hey, that's just me.

16. I think history shows FDR wanted to get involved in WWII in Europe.

First "Cash and Carry", then "Lend Lease".

Then Hitler made it easy - declaring war on the USA.

Maybe in Mr. Santorum's world, he's confusing FDR with Robert Alphonso Taft. But then Mr. Taft's views these days appear more Democratic than Republican.

since he has no facts, he chooses bullshit. but not just any brand of bullshit, but the type of bullshit that makes you back slowly away from your crazy ass neighbor when he shows you the "scar" from the implant that aliens put in him.

He has so convinces himself that this is a winning strategy that he has to outdo himself with more crazy each and everytime, just so people will listen to him.

ass froth is done. He has had his moment in the front. It's just a matter of who falls fastest to the bottom.

mittens is like the floating turd. he never really drops much below 25% but does he really rises above it either.

ass froth is enjoy the desperate cheers of the crazy right who are loathed to support a mormon. To them, that's the equivelent of supporting a non-citizen Kenyan who doesn't have a birth cert. LOL

give it time ass froth will fall below the floating turd. (now there's a statement, huh? )

17. I remember that picture, Javaman.

Chicago 1968, Democratic convention. That picture radcalized me. On another note, today I was in Prattsville, NY one of the towns devastated by Hurricane Irene. A bunch of our Lutheran youth were there mucking out basements and tearing down a trailer. As I checked on them, there on the ground was a 12SA7 tube. I asked the kids if they knew what it was, not a one did. Then I told them. They looked at me with puzzlement when I told them that in 1967 I took the tubes out of a tv that didn't work that was given to me, and went down to the drugstore and tested them, got 5 new ones and replaced them and was able to watch Star Trek in B/W.

30. I remember a Mad magazine from the early 1970s

Had a segment of cartoons called "Don't you hate..." and one was "Tube testers that are about as accurate as a two dollar watch". The cartoon was of a man taking a new tube out of a box and putting in the machine which said failed. The funniest part of the cartoon, though, was that the tube tester was sitting next to a machine called a "Two dollar watch tester".

Anyway, we have all seen tremendous technology changes. I sometimes wonder what our grandparents generation went through; from no motorcars to TV, computers, and landing on the moon.

33. well, let's see

Hitler went after the gays; hitler went after the socialists; hitler banned abortion; hitler loved the corporate state, he especially loved some american industrialists; hitler said "who says god is not on my side."

and santee has a problem with memory. because we knew little boot's was leading us down, except for his "friends." Who seem to have done very well with obscene profits and tax cuts, while the majority of americans are suffering.

Santee needs that religion to keep his people in line, because everyone knows it's god's will if you're suffering and god's blessing (even if you are the most immoral, corrupt bastid in the world) if you're wealthy.

And I'm getting tired of the corporate mcpravda allowing these "oopsies" and fabrications to go unchallenged. Obama was raised and influenced by his WHITE grandparents and mother. Obama is a christian. Get it, freepers?

25. Santorum Is Clearly Not A History Buff

American foreign policy following WW I was formed by Republican isolationist so we had a fairly weak military. There were still enough of those isolationisms in the Senate to block FDR's efforts to counter Hitler's moves in Europe. Indeed, people such as Prescott Bush were trading partners with the Hitler government. In hindsight, everybody knows we should have done more earlier in the struggle for Europe but that would have required the isolationists of the day to step aside, which they didn't. Santorum may want to revise history to make a talking point but comes out instead looking like an uninformed fool in the process.

31. They still remembered the horrors of WWI

The horrors of WWI were still fresh in their mind, a lot of people could not get themselves to face the realities of Hitler. After the trench warfare of WWI, which sent a lot of sons off to their demise, they were not ready to jump into the fire again. They were there, they saw it. Not like today where a bunch of draft dodgers start a war. These fear tactics are standard issue for the religious right. But this election has taken a very dark turn, you would think they would be shooting themselves in the foot. Or is it just another diversion like gay marriage in 2004 to divert their attention from whats really going on. I am getting to where I can't stand to watch them.

45. American industrialists thought Hitler was nice guy until he started killing Jews. Some still do.

A good number of American corporations worked with the Nazis, nearly all knowing perfectly well what they were doing. IBM knew they were organizing the Holocaust. Ford and GM knew their plants were making Nazi war machines, and demanded (and got) reparations from the US government after the war for our damage to their facilities there. There are plenty more stories, extremely well documented.

He's not crazy, he's projecting. It's different.

52. Really..

As a Brit I'm not sure how I feel about that analogy, yes it's widely accepted that for whatever reason America did join the war late. But that support was welcomed and appreciated none the less.

I think it's somewhat poor taste at the very least to use such a reference when speaking about the President of the United States, regardless of whether you're a democrat or republican (Apologies, you'll have to excuse my distinct lack of American political knowledge).

As for the nonchalant thoughts of 'it'll be okay', I don't think that's exclusive to the States. More of a Western wide mindset, and one I've seen in other parts of the world.
