It's still a baby. I'll wait to make harsh judgements of his/her character until he/she knows how to talk. Saying that it has 'dodged the grim reaper' is sort of a sick comment.

The world's attention is riveted on what may emerge from some British woman's vagina. Whoop-de-doo.

Maybe it's because I just got back from several days in South Africa where I was untethered to media, cell service or internet, but I was just amazed this morning flying into JFK and seeing full-time coverage of such inconsequential shit on CNN blew my mind.

Here's four guys I met last week. I rode up on that bike and they were at the top of a hill. They sell souvenirs from their village at a lookout point on top of that hill, and their village is about six miles down in that valley. It was getting late in the day and they were hitchhiking to get a ride back to their village. The youngest guy's name is Fan-fan and he was glad I had some granola bars to share. In exchange, they told me where the baboons hang out, and what to do if they chase me. The question of whether they made it back that night is, IMHO, a much more compelling story than whatever might come out of Kate Middleton's vagina.

(and, yes, they got a ride, since I went out later in a car to look for them)

You should post that as a thread. I wouldn't compare the two stories, though.

I understand your frustration, but telling people they shouldn't be happy for a very public couple (that seem to do some good things with their spare time) because you got to meet these four men isn't going to make a difference in anyone's lives.

This baby is giving some people a welcome distraction. It's a time when people can join together in a celebration. Do I care? No. I'm an American. I like the couple, but they don't mean a hill of spotted dick to me. I'm happy for them. Hope the baby is healthy. I've had my issues with the Royal family, but not so much today.

I would care more about these four. Not as a comparison. None of the people involved have chosen where they were born or to what family. There will always be stories like these. Sad, happy, tragic, etc. I think it's okay to celebrate the happy stories and at the same time, work towards preventing the sad and tragic.
