How DU remembers Helen Thomas

6. I, too, thought of this when I read of her passing.

This was before my time, but I was so touched and proud of my fellow DUers for letting her know how very much she was loved and appreciated. I'm sure it meant the world to her.

What a life, huh? She was an amazing presence in our world, and such an inspiration.

RIP, Helen.

as a real media person should be.

She was a good "journalist" who did her job.
The sad thing is that THAT (doing the job of a "journalist&quot
made her so remarkable.

There was a time when our "Journalists" were the Watch Dogs of our Democracy.
Sadly, that is no longer true.
They now serve as talking points distributors who will salivate for attention from their Masters.

9. Thanks for the pics. For someone so small, Helen was a giant.

When the rest of the White House press corps sat down and behaved like stenographers for Ari Fleischer, Helen Thomas stood up on her hind legs and asked very pointed questions. And for that, the cowards mocked her and tried to silence her.

Sending her roses was a proud DU moment, back then.

10. One memory: Helen made a poor choice of words. She was talking about PEACE.

Helen Thomas has a right to write what she has found -- as an individual and as a reporter. She also has the right to state her opinion -- as an individual and as a columnist.

That's why I have a problem with people who want to shut up Helen Thomas for saying what she did. She has a Constitutional right and Constitutional authority to report what she knows. Right or wrong and we may disagree, but that is the way American democracy works.

Those who want Helen to shut up also prevent discussion of the root problems of the region. She didn't say "Destroy Israel." She said Israel should get out of Palestine, meaning the West Bank. The illegal "settlements" are a major roadblock to reaching a real peace.

Helen Thomas stated the solution for the Middle East peace process. Israel must stop the illegal, immoral and inhumane treatment of the Palestinian people; and Israel must leave the West Bank to the Palestinians.

Like it or not, that is the only real solution to the conflicts in the Middle East. Peace between people.

PS: The Undercover Rabbi tripped her up, big time. He couldn't have picked a bigger friend of Israel to destroy.
