BOYCOTT FLORIDA!

ENOUGH!

1. Southern Justice wins again, with the not guilty verdict of George Zimmerman, eerily reminiscent of the Emit Till murder acquittal.
2. The Florida "Stand Your Ground law" means vigilantism can rule against all of us.
3. A convicted medicare fraud Businessman is elected governor.
4. Obamacare which was legally passed by Congress its being ignored (We already settled the State's Rights issue in 1865!)
5. Blatant attempts at deliberately disenfranchising African Americans in 2012 are tolerated by the state's electorate.
6. A governor helps steal a presidential election for his idiot brother by using Sec of State Katherine Harris to hire a company to knock
non-felon African Americans off the voter rolls and have the state police harass blacks on their way to the polls.

We can all send a message that these actions will no longer go unpunished by the American public. OFFICIAL BOYCOTT FLORIDA. NO MORE DISNEY TRIPS, SPRING BREAKS, SPRING TRAINING VACATIONS, OR FLORIDA KEYS GETAWAYS!

A tourist state can't thrive without visitors and I for one will not go there and will not buy their products as long as vigilantism is legal.

Florida is not safe for anyone as far as I'm concerned.

9. And the millions of workers supporting families thank you

For helping them not be able to support or feed their families and for the soon to be lack of tax revenues that will impact our schools. And thanks also for what will happen to our water system and state parks and our overall environment and our roads and bridges. We have no state tax here so without those revenues, people and children and our communities will suffer.

But not to worry- thanks to Congress food stamps are gone too- lets see how else we can hurt working and needy families...

don't you? Fix your government. We're fixing ours.

And if your boycotting of Texas products and services will help us change our government, PLEASE boycott Texas and write some letters to Perry, or Gomert, or Cruz and let let them know. Your Governor wants to starve you and disenfranchise you in the end anyways, boycott or no. Better to starve on your feet than on your knees. Get really mad and change your government. And help us change ours.

50. That won't happen. Time after time we read about the need for term limits, when a system for

limiting those terms already exists - we just don't use it.

Eddie Murphy made the movie "The Distinguished Gentleman" where his character ran and was elected on the slogan of 'vote for the name you know', where he (Murphy character) had the same last name as a recently deceased congressman. He won.

Incumbents have a success rate for reelection of about 90%, and they are aware of that statistic. About the only way one is replaced is through an untimely death, or retirement.

This is fairly consistent from the local level to the national. We tend to keep 'the name we know.'

97. That's sorta what I said. "When a system for

limiting those terms already exists - we just don't use it."

And we don't. We vote for the 'name we know'.

Often we will hear/read comments along the line of "Congress is failing! They don't accomplish anything." Then, in a smaller voice "except for my guy".

Thanks though, for clarifying what I typed.

42. Agree...It always makes me

roll my eyes in disgust when people rant about boycotting this place or that place.

Not that a handful of DUers would likely make a dent in the economy of Florida, but even if they could...

who ends up paying in the end?

Regular people who depend on tourism, etc. Regular people who had nothing whatsoever to do with anything that happened. Them...and their kids.

Oh, and not to mention the people in Florida who actually supported Trayvon Martin and his family.

Yeah...let's just try to hurt them all.

Because...duhhhh...

it seemed like a great idea...

94. Sorry KarynininMiami

but I choose not to go to Florida for any reason and encourage/welcome a boycott since money and keeping minorities in their place are all your politicians and the people who vote for them care about.

My grandfather and his brothers were born in Florida and all left as teenagers in 1916 because of the racism in that state; and they never, ever returned. Florida also gave US the 2000 election disaster (Jeb, Katherine Harris...) which gave us W.

Sorry but y'all clean up your pols and laws and make Florida a place people will want to flock to... And I say that as I live in nearby red state hell where a boycott had an economic effect that led to the stars and bars being removed from atop the dome of the state capitol. More needs to be done, but for that goal alone it worked.

People need to wake up from Disney/Mickey Mouse, American Idol and Sports Center and realize that we now face fights on all fronts, fights we thought we'd put to bed in the 1960s and 70s: civil rights, voting rights, women's rights/abortion. And now, civil liberties (1st & 4th amendment rights).

I stopped going there when a woman was forced to die alone, without her family, because the bigots decided it was A-Okay to keep same sex couples apart when one was hospitalized.

6. Again I ask-will that stop racism? Will it bring Trayvon back?

Will it make Zimmerman change his plea or stop hate or impact the stand your ground law?

What boycotting Florida WILL do is reduce wages paid to working people in the tourism industry, many of whom receive minimum wages and have families to support. We have no state tax here so without tourism dollars people will starve. Is that going to stop injustice or hate or fix our lopsided justice system? How about committing to come to Florida or donate money to help us facilitate change? There are many of us here who are just as outraged by this as you are and who are working for change here. Help us throw out criminals like Scott and get more democrats elected statewide. Help us make voting accessible and verifiable and fair. Help us stop racism by joining the NAACP to demand justice. Do something constructive - punishing working people and families is not going to help. Nor will it stop racism or bring back Trayvon Martin.

did anyone feel bad for the fallout for all those companies and their employees.....what a bunch of cods wallop.

INot spending my money in Florida, ahas me spending money elsewhere and keeping someone else employed. It has everything to do with personal preferences and responsibility. It's not my job to keep everyone in the nation employed. Otherwise I'd have to stay in every hotel in every city in the USA, buy every product ever manufactured, drink every lemonade out of every lemonade stand. The idea that my personal choice must be made with other's emplyoment in mind is ludicrous.

I will take my family on a vacation to a place where I feel they will be safe and not hunted. Where I have no fear of people packing guns, where we can feel carefree and happy. Right now, Florida isn't offering that.

three states more dangerous than Florida, according to this...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/13/10-most-violent-states_n_848317.html#s263628&title=1_Louisiana

1. Louisiana
2. Tennessee
3. Nevada
4. Florida
5. Alabama
6. Texas
7. Arkansas
8. Oklahoma
9. South Carolina
10.Maryland

Those are the top ten most violent states.

Anyone who lives in any of those states, who is also worried about violence might want to consider relocating.

I mean, why actually live in a violent state if visiting one is out of the question?

Good.

Anyone demonstrating a real willingness and action to bring meaningful change to Florida gets my support.

Spending tax money on PR in an effort to offset the effects of declining tourism? Nope.

Re-branding? Nope.

No money willingly goes from me to any business located in Florida, Texas, Kansas or Arizona. Money is the only thing anyone listens to anymore...

...so taste the silence.

I donate what I can to people who are doing real things to make these places inhabitable again.

The entity of Florida doesn't have anything to do with a jury verdict. There's no message you can send to the way bad facts play out in a courtroom.

Aim your actions and exhortations in a way that least makes a modicum of sense.

I love ya, but you NEVER learn that they way to beat these right wing nuts is to PLAY HARDBALL! Let's say that the Democrats had a law in Massachusetts that the Right found unjust and they started screaming that they would boycott Massachusetts until the law was repealed. Democrats would COWER and repeal it ASAP to placate the Right.

Well DAM IT, when a 28 year old man can murder a 17 year old kid and get away with it, its time for THEM TO COWER at the loss of tourism and reform their laws and to Placate US for a change! If they don't, at least, Florida voters will think twice about voting for right wing extremists in the next election.

My grandfather and his brothers were born in Florida and all left as teenagers in 1916 because of the racism in that state; and they never, ever returned. Florida also gave US the 2000 election disaster (Jeb, Katherine Harris...) and W.

Sorry but Florida needs to clean up/out its pols and laws and make Florida a place people will want to flock to... People need to wake up from Disney/Mickey Mouse, American Idol and Sports Center and realize that we now face fights on all fronts, some fights we thought we'd put to bed in the 1960s and 70s like civil rights, voting rights, women's rights/abortion and new ones like now involving our civil liberties (1st & 4th amendment rights).

24. I agree with a boycot.

As a 45 year resident of Florida, I can tell you the only thing the legislature listens to is money and bad press that costs them money. They are arguably one of the most morally bankrupt, bought and paid for, anti-labor governing bodies on Earth. All this bull about "help us elect Progressives" ain't gonna happen here-ever. The entire state is so gerrymandered as to make it impossible.

Sorry if small businesses are hurt, but something drastic must be done to keep this state from sliding back to the 19th century.

Florida "government" and "justice" are a big part of why, but I knew he wouldn't understand that, so I just told him I'd moved to the ideal climate for me (true) and wanted to stay put, even though I was living in a shabby unfixed fixer is a bad neighborhood.

This works out for my family. We're choosing a place for next years family reunion. We're a huge family. Florida just got crossed off the list.

We don't have much power, but what little we have, we do get to use as we see fit.

On planning committees for conferences, again...Florida is a no go.

Probably won't make a difference to their bottom line. But, it helps to know that after they kill you, there won't be justice for you. Now that I think about it, I think one of the boosters here was considering Florida for a high school senior trip. I'm thinking there has got to be a better place to take a group of black hs seniors.

Making a note to contact a couple of parents tonight. But, right about now, I can just about guarantee if they haven't paid a deposit of some sort...that isnt happening.

120. BOYCOTT FLORIDA STOP SPENDING YOUR DOLLARS WHERE YOUR LIFE IS NOT VALUED!!!!! Wake Up People!!!!!

In the mid 1980's as a stand against South Africa Apartheid several student organisations were formed with the goal of protesting against apartheid, and these organisations were central to urban school boycotts in 1980 and 1983 as well as rural boycotts in 1985 and 1986. These groups and many others Boycotted Companies that were doing business in South Africa, this was one of many actions that brought about change in South Africa (Companies such as Coke Cola). The problem is we as a people suffer from short term memory loss we forget that our true freedom and equality was never claimed and the fight that our ancestors fought has not been won. We have become polarized by materialism mistaking that for true equality. We as a race are amongst the top One percentile of consumers our money has power and where we choose to spend it speaks Volume. This is our time to support and own Black Owned Businesses; as a new movement to stand up for Justice through our economic power. Change can only come about when we have had enough; my question is are we there yet? People have failed to pay attention that slowly the changes and rights that were given to our communities have been dismantled piece by piece. It's truly sad we only act when something terrible and tragic happens; by this time next week Trayvon will start becoming a distant memory for many choosing to swept it under the rug until the next tragedy. The Time is Now and Justice must be served and Equality must be earned!

Thoughts of a boycott are stupid at best. We are a service industry state. You thoughts of a boycott will hurt those trying to make this state better. The young voters who are becoming politically aware. You go get em.

How about this for an idea. Democrats, Florida is actually a great place to live, move on down. Help us in our fight. Help us continue the change. Help Florida become more blue. Being retirement hotbed of the country and we still voted for Obama twice.

Unlike you, we are not quitters.

The corporations like Disney and Universal along with all their corporate hotel partners will just bring in more foreign guests to the state to their attractions. The old Florida attractions that we all like to visit, the fishing charters, and the sea food restaurants along the coasts are the ones that will suffer.

But if you feel you don't want to go to Florida, it is your call and maybe safety should play into it as does a decision to go anywhere. I had the opportunity to go to Russia last year until my company safety committee advised against it.

128. It doesn't make sense to me

As a political move or a move to get them to act right. However - I would not want my nephews (17 and 20 year old black males) ever stepping foot in that state.

There is NOTHING they can get there that they can't get here. There's just no need.

Now that is not even a PERSONAL boycott - that is a very real and valid belief that if they so much as step foot out of the airport some asshole is going to blow a hole in their chest and get away with it.

Until I can be assured that my flesh and blood will be safe and sound - there's no need for them to boycott - they can simply make an active choice (which talking to them appears to be the case : ) of never going to Florida until they are absolutely certain they will not be murdered for WHAT they are.

Two young black men - 17 and 20. Florida got what they wanted. Two less of 'them' there. So Florida ought to be happy about that.
