Witness in Zimmerman trial is giving details of area burglaries before Trayvon was shot

From the Twitter page of Orlando Sentinel Court Reporter:

I think the defense will argue that Trayvon was profiled by Zimmerman on the grounds that he was the same race as the burglars.

1. Shouldn't those who suspect pedestrians of being burglars have seen the pedestrians carry something?

2. Paints a picture of a community in fear, driven by racism

And shows Zimmerman put himself right in the middle of it, helping this damsel. That creeps me out.

14. I live abut 15 min away from Sanford

and it has a very high crime rate.
See how dangerous Sanford, FL is

Property crime rate in 2011

Sanford: 599.1
U.S. Average: 273.7

Violent crime rate in 2011

Sanford: 342.8
U.S. Average: 213.6
That still does not give anyone the right to go out looking for someone to shoot.

15. Of course it doesn't. Though it certainly reveals a bit about their mental states

It creates motive that led to following a profiled teenager while armed. This wasn't just something that happened in a bubble. Zimmerman talked to that woman 20 times since she had her issue. Who else was he talking to? Were all these people there obsessed with safety and crime, perceiving all black people as potential perps? I've never lived in a place like that honestly. Just seems creepy

The entire community sounds like a bunch of racist yahoos.

25. I wouldn't call it

"racism".

I would call it stereotyping, and here's why.

Say you live in a community that's been burglarized recently by a couple of tall, blond haired men.

Is it "racism" to then be suspicious of tall, blond haired men walking around the neighborhood? At most, it's stereotyping, but even then, how utterly stupid would it be to suspect short bald men when it was tall blond haired men who have been doing the burglarizing?

Or, say there's a rabid coyote running through the neighborhood biting people and killing pets. What do you do...hunt down and kill every rabbit you see?

5. Read her bits

Online -

What I wished the Prosecution had asked?

Were the 'punks' who broke into her house in jail - since they were indeed arrested. More important were they in jail at the time that Georgie killed Trayvon?

I.E. Did they get away with it?

Because it sounds like Georgie had his facts wrong when speaking to emergency - he said 'these punks always get away . . .'

So he was mistaken. They don't. They didn't. What he said was not true and if he had spoken to that woman 20 times (reached out a hand) then he knows damn well they didn't get away with it.

10. Not that I think any of it is relevant,

but that would be a pretty good way to figure out if someone was home before you break in. If they came to the door you could just use some predetermined reason for the ringing the bell and ease on down the road to another house.

13. I think the jury might see Zimmerman as less of a racist

If they know that Zimmerman wasn't going to profile white men if recent burglars were African American, as his mind would be primed with the images of African American trying to rob houses.

16. But, but, but

that is the very essence of racial profiling. Zimmerman didn't assess Trayvon on his own merits; as a pedestrian, a teen talking on the phone for a longish time (as most teens do), trying to wait out the rain and stay relatively dry at the mailbox area, then realizing it was getting darker and that he wasn't going to be able to wait it out, he pulls up the hood of his sweatshirt to shelter somewhat from the rain and strikes out for home.

Too late for him though, because right there, right then, at the mailbox area, Trayvon had already been profiled by Zimmy as a black male punk--a 'suspect' and potential burglar--and Zimmy was already on the phone with the police calling in his a description of him.

Those are the actions of a racist, to prejudge someone almost solely on the color or their skin, while ignoring that the peson's actions are actually innocuous and, were the color of that person's skin white, that person would have been totally ignored.

30. And sometimes kids

can do some strange things.

They even like to be ball-busters...especially 17 year old boys.

I wasn't there, and neither were you, but isn't it possible Trayvon Martin, seeing that he was being followed, might have started acting a bit weird just to freak out the nosy-assed "cracker"?

Some kids get all, "Hey, whatchoo lookin' at, man???" just because someone looks at them a little too long.

Maybe he pulled his hoodie up a little more, hiding his face...and, in doing so, made himself look even more suspicious.

Nobody knows.

I think that most people who have had kids would admit, though, that "typical kids" can act like total assholes when they've a mind to.

Shooting them because they are being kids (even ass like kids) is horrific. The fact that this kid was stalked by his murderer is even more horrific.

By the same token, why would a serial killer (like Ted Bundy) hang around in plain sight in public places, luring young women into his car?

Burglars don't always skulk in the shadows...

32. That's assuming

Zimmerman wasn't being attacked and fearing for his own life...something which, if not exactly proven, has also not been disproven.

There are so many possibilities, but from reading some of the posts over the past week or so, a lot of people seem to know without a doubt exactly what happened.

And I sit and think, wow...if Zimmerman walks, maybe they have themselves to blame.

IOW, if they have all this inside knowledge about the way things went down that night, why aren't they in that courtroom, helping to convict George Zimmerman?

37. Sanford is 22 square miles

The neighborhood where this happened is over on the west side. This is a nice area and not crime ridden. Close to the mall and Heathrow/ Lake Mary. Check their crime stats for a more accurate representation of the area.
Yes there have been burglaries but this is an area where any parent would let their kid walk around.
The job market is so bad my white honors college grad son can't find work. Not terribly surprised young black men would steal when there are so few jobs. The violent crime stats probably represent that there has been a problem with shooting up houses ( mostly without injury)in the black neighborhoods but the cops are all over that. Also I think it turned out the burglaries were by a guy that lived in Zimmerman neighborhood. So fear of violent crime in Zimmermans neighborhood are bull!
