What is the best Charity for Joplin, MO?

A dear friend's son (27) was killed by a drunk driver last week and they are asking for donations to rebuild Joplin because that was his son, Seneca Black Elk Mathews', passion. He took his vacation to help rescue and recover people and devoted many weekends to the endeavor. I want the money to go to a legitimate charity for this cause. Can you help? Thanks.

Just a suggestion. Good luck with this worthy endeavor. Wish I could be of more help.

A little something from the Joplin city webpage

May I suggest something? Call the City of Joplin and see where they are currently suggesting donations to go.

Habitat for Humanity is engaged in a major building push this upcoming summer. The Humane Society is dedicating itself to either reuniting animals with their humans or finding new humans for them. The range of the need is still broad. Here is a partial list of charities working in the Joplin area

Those people are still hurting down there, and like any big disaster, after all the lights and cameras go away, the money starts to dry up as well. Nice to see people still caring about the place and people.

His car was disabled and he was walking for help when a drunk diver hit him and kept on driving. Just as his family will never get over his loss, Joplin will never be the same again either. You're welcome, I am happy to be able to help.
