Ralph Lauren started making ties and selling them to his classmates and Ben and Jerry just looking for better flavours. What both found in effect were gaps in the market.

Its gaps which may be the secret and also products for which there will always be demand but where a new angle increases opportunity.

to fund things. Personally, I like it as a way to start. Remember, the big boys get funded first in the banking world. Often, small start ups are considered too risky and you have to leverage your belongings at increased amounts compared to the past.
