Count me as a dyed-in-the-wool, Yellow-dog, Alan Grayson/Elizabeth Warren/Bernie Sanders Democrat.

I know my history. I know my civics. I know my country. I know it has been in distress for many, many years now. If that makes me a pearl-clutcher, that is a badge I will wear with honor. I would rather be that than a Pollyanna any day. Other than that, my garden is doing very nicely. Got some great day lilies in bloom. Beautiful.

3. Its "Yellow Dog" that claims those distinctions you mention. Blue Dogs are moderates, DINO's.

5. My yard is parched

and not even tumbleweeds are growing. The western drought is hideous again this year, although we've had minimal rain from storms that mostly missed the city.

However, I know all the same things you do and I'll throw in Keynes to boot as the Dismal Science is probably going to make the country even more dismal before things get any better.

I'll vote Democratic but mostly because voting for the other side has become unthinkable.

6. That's about the state of it. I'm darn near tempted to run myself, I'm starting to look at the

Sarah Palin's and the Michelle Bachmann's of the world and think that I severely overestimated the barriers to entry.

9. A Bernie Sanders Dem? Really?

Senator Sanders, as he will tell you at every opportunity, is not a member of the Democratic Party. He is a socialist, and has been a socialist for most of his life.

BTW - I am a 1000% supporter of Bernie. If you want to help him financially make sure you send the contribution to his campaign directly. He doesn't get any money from the DNC or DSCC.

10. Yeah, I get it. Totally. Consider it a shot across the bow of the establishment. I love Bernie,

have no problems with his Socialist principles, and if I could only give to one politician it would be him.

11. are you sure bernie doesn't get any money from the DSCC?

Harry Reid's Searchlight leadership Fund contributed $10,000 to Bernie's 2012 campaign. Schumer's PAC has donated to him. And although Bernie is an Independent Socialist, he's supported by the Vermont Democratic Party.

http://blogs.burlingtonfreepress.com/politics/2011/11/07/sen-bernie-sanders-wins-democratic-endorsement-for-re-election/

And of course, he caucuses with the dems. He's pretty closely aligned with the dem party.

12. Yes Bernie caucuses with the Dems

I think he's doing the right thing by being a member of the Democratic caucus. In recent years the Vermont Democratic Party has given him a clear field to run by not putting up a strong candidate and thus splitting the progressive vote. That has not always been the case in Bernie's political career, including when he was mayor of Burlington and when he initially ran for Congress.

I always considered Bernie Sanders as being the elected representative of lefties like me no matter where we lived. I had a "Bernie Sanders for Congress" bumpersticker on my car for many years when I lived in Texas.

15. the vermont dem party has done more than give him a clear field. they sponsor

events with him, they not only don't put up a strong candidate, but they don't put up any candidate and they endorse him.

No, it hasn't always been the case, but it has been for years and years. He was mayor of B-town 30 years ago.

It's a pretty tight relationship at this point and I'm glad of it.

14. Cali

Bernie Sanders most of all is his own person, he votes with his head first and his heart second.
There has been on occasion when his views are a little different than mine, but I will say one thing for sure and with certainty that he cares for the average person.

16. Yes, he's his own person and yes, he's a cerebral sort

and having attended many town meetings with him, I can confirm that he cares not only for the average person but for the disadvantaged.

via progressive organizations that wont support Blue Dogs. Just sayin.

29. I am also a Sanders/Warren/Grayson Democrat.

And my parents and sister are racist, homophobic conservatives who turn purple with rage when the poor, disabled, temporarily downtrodden, mentally affected by war service TAKERS are mentioned. They see these people as so much less than they are. I feel sorry for my family. What must it be like to live with such hatred? Exhausting, I think.

So my garden is doing pretty well this year, even though it got a late start. I still have a rhododendron blooming. The cucumbers, beans and squash are almost ready to join the production line, and I've put pots of every kind of flower on my deck, with the idea that gaudy and tasteless can contribute no end of cheer: agapanthus, geranium, modern petunia, heirloom petunia, thunbergia, lobelia, dahlia, marigold, toadflax, bee balm, sweet alyssum, portulaca, swamp milkweed and zinnia. Funny... my lilies didn't show up this year.
