Daughter reaction to her "Laptop Dad"

People were telling her she was going to commit suicide, commit a gun-related crime, become a drug addict, drop out of school, get pregnant on purpose, and become a stripper because she’s too emotionally damaged now to be a productive member of society. Apparently stripper was the job-choice of most of the commenters. Her response was “Dude… it’s only a computer. I mean, yeah I’m mad but pfft.” She actually asked me to post a comment on one of the threads (and I did) asking what other job fields the victims of laptop-homicide were eligible for because she wasn’t too keen on the stripping thing.

Maybe we should be talking about what the daughter thinks instead of what WE THINK should happen and what kind of people they are.

Do you think the reporter would knowingly put that out if they didn't think it was true?

5. As a father with a teenage daughter...I think I would have been slightly angry with my daughter

posting crap like that on the internet. Was shooting the computer over the top...yes. At least he didn't pull the TX judge and kick the shit out of her.

My daughter at times gets quite a sense of entitlement. She has chores to do around the house. I did see her complain that I forced her to make her bed each morning or I would take away her IPOD. I laughed and we had a discussion about responsibilities.

Making her a responsible adult by doing chores is not abuse. Taking away her computer for (which he bought) is not abuse. And I don't see a connection between punishment and becoming a stripper.

after wiping all personal data off. No sense ruining a perfectly good laptop someone could use. I don't think taking it away from her (along with any other electronic devices) is unreasonable given what she did - twice. I'd be pissed too. But I'd not ruin a good laptop over it. I'd give it to someone who would put it to better use. (and I'd tell her just that - "I'm going to give it to someone who would put it to better use and who will appreciate it because you don't and you're abusing the privilege and disrespecting your parents with it&quot .
