A dad lives there with his 4 sons - ages approx 15 - 21.
Some years back, his wife died of breast cancer and shortly after they painted their house pink. I live in a pretty common looking suburban neighborhood, so it kinda stood out.
Last week they painted grey and black. Turns out he and the boys didn't think mom would have approved recent developments at Komen.
Actually, the Dad said that she probably would have thought that painting the house pink was pretty silly too, but the boys really wanted to do something visible and they did the work themselves. They agreed though that it was time to move on in some ways.
Anyway, they are a nice family who have really pulled together during a very tough time. Breast cancer doesn't run in my family; it gallops! I've lost several relatives to the disease and while I am very encouraged by progress that has been made in the past 20 years or so, I know that there is much more work to be done.
I hope that people who gave to Komen in all good faith of trying to fight breast cancer will find other outlets and not be turned off all together. That would be a real shame.

(946 posts)Tell the local media about it and get a story about it. With more stories like this, Komen will realize just how damaged their brand is.

Maybe Kber could ask them and then take it to the local media...or further. It is a powerful story and, if the family is willing, should be shared.

Food for thought, certainly.
Thanks!

You should try to document this.
