I don't care how revered he was as a coach. By sitting back and doing nothing, he allowed countless other innocents to suffer needlessly.

Notice how quiet all on the Right are of late? They first came out, claiming the allegations were false. Then some claimed it was a liberal plot. Now? Nothing. The silence is deafening. But not surprising.

And I hear they do some really bad things to child molestors in prison.

The thing is Sandusky shot himself in the foot from day one by going on that Costas interview, and then hiring a lawyer who's just as big of a fucking creep as he is, if not more so.

I agree that he shouldn't be able to get away with it, and he can have any number of lawyers in the world - there's no good way to spin this. None.

The idea of letting my client get on national T & V with a well prepared journalist, RIGHT.

That was unbelievably dumb, perhaps close to malpractice.

that leaves two possibilities:

A) they are working on a mental incapacity defense

B) they are working on an ineffectual counsel defense.

Either way, the only questions that remain are how well done do you want your goose? Gravy or no?

While his attorney was sitting next to Bob Costas! That's the part that still kills me.

But let me ask you this - say you are the prosecutor on this case and you have to look at every angle of both your client, and the person who is being prosecuted. Would the prosecutee's choice of defense, like Sandusky's choice of the guy who impregnated a teenage girl at age 50, have an impact on not only how the case is presented, would that already affect how the trial is presented to the judge and jury, would that pursuade the verdict either way?

that they were going for ineffectual counsel defense--cause I just don't see any way they can win this case, especially with Sandusky going on the air and admitting that he was naked in the shower with an under-age boy.

In addition to embarrassed, ashamed and SHOCKED, I am PISSED.

If ever there was a case to be made for mandatory retirement of coaches at say - 65, Joe Paterno has made it. Or better yet - term limits. Most university presidents, deans and department chairs cannot server more than a specified number of years - usually around 10. Maybe it is time to institute that for NCAA coaches. Power corrupts. It is time to stop allowing coaching dynasties to develop.

My father is 67 years old and would treat the molestation of a child as seriously as he would have at 37. JoePa would have done the same thing were it 30 years previous. Sometimes bad decisions are just part of a man's makeup.

contributed to a certain mentality of entitlement and "I AM Penn State Football" . I think a similar thing might have happened with Woody Hayes at Ohio State. His transgression obviously was not anywhere near of the same nature but the mindset of "I can do no wrong" is what I am thinking about. I think a younger Joe Paterno just might have responded differently. And there is little question in my mind that if an older Joe Paterno had known about a child being abused at some other location by someone not connected to Penn State football he might have responded very differently. He just could not seem to get past his loyalty to Sandusky and the Penn State Football program.

It depends on people's priorities Joe! You obviously need to revisit those along with your conscience! I'm guessing that factored heavily in to the reasons for firing him.

want to interfere with people’s weekend.

REALLY!!?? REALLY!!?? What, the POLICE in State College aren't on duty on weekends? Or is that just when there is a home football game? Criminy, I have heard less pathetic excuses from grade school kids.

Didn't want to interfere with people's weekend? Which people's would that be? Sandusky's, the victim, the victim's parents, the police, YOURS, who? I got news for you Joe. The victim's weekend was already "interfered with" and his LIFE, for that matter. Did you even once think about that?

Because of men whose positions led them to put their personal welfare above the abuse of children.

the only good thing about this moment is that it has put all athletic programs on notice. education that results from such trials is the only way to turn the horrid actions of people acting as representatives of an institution into something that can make the future better.

I hope the Penn State football program is shut down forever.

-joePa acknowledges he DIDNT call people quickly....the excuse/reason is that he didnt want to interfere with people's weekend

Wow....just disgusting and very revealing....the head priest of the Church of Penn State Football decided that people deserved to have a pleasant weekend filled with football and not interfered with by the unpleasant details that Sandusky is a pedophile who rapes children!!

I keep hoping that the current inquiry that the NCAA is conducting will result in their being made an example. I think the NCAA needs to send a powerful message that something like this should never have happened and needs to be prevented and comes with very, very harsh consequences...
