"Tropical" Disturbance on Superbowl Sunday

http://www.abc-7.com/story/16680888/tropical-disturbance-on-superbowl-sunday

This is a first for Superbowl Suday! The National Hurricane Center is interested in an area of low pressure that is forming in the Gulf of Mexico, to the southwest of us.

They have labeled the system "Invest 90-L" and it is circled on the satellite image to the right.

This developing system will not be a purely tropical storm because the water temperatures are way too cool. Water temperatures need to be warmer than 80º for a tropical system to get energy.

This particular system has a chance to become some sort of hybrid, or subtropical storm in the next couple of days....
