San Diego Nine go on Hunger Strike.

April 5, 2013. (San Diego)—Today nine San Diego Workers went on a five day hunger strike. These San Diego Workers, are protesting what Lorena Gonzalez of the Central Labor Council calls “union busting practices.”

This is not the first time something like this happens when workers try to organize. Last year over a thousand Janitors attempted to organize in San Diego, and the company they worked for suddenly discovered E-Verify. This is the same at the Hilton in Mission Valley. This is not being done by the hotel to check on the migratory status of workers, but as a tool to suppress the efforts of workers to organize.

In her view E-Verify is used “as a weapon to intimidate workers.”

I want you all to realize something. First, I sent this to OpEd news, second, this is part of the national trend for more and more strikes.

It also revealed that we as a country live the illusion of middle class. It is an illusion. Those at the bottom have figured this out. They are losing their fear. How long until the comfortable "middle class" joins them in the front lines?

Now I'd better catch some Zzzz. Need to go cover day two tomorrow.

2. Nadin, I don't think such tactics have an impact. Pharaoh's heart will harden.

These folks will not be shamed into the right thing nor will there hearts and minds be won.

If we are to have anything, we will have to take it. It will not be given.

3. such tactics

Have workef in the history of trade unionism in the United States . As one of rhe organizers told me today, paraphrasing, writing the story for today later...hername is Alma, took two and a half years, and a hunger strike in the end they git the Union in.

In tjis case they have the historic support of city leaders, stste reps, and two congressmen

4. Kick and starting work on tonight's two reports

One has all the background to the strike, over the last year at the San Diego Mission Valley Hilton. The second is the visit by Congressman Juan Vargas (D-CA51) with the strikers and the interview that we had regarding immigration reform.

I also got him to speak a tad on the North Korean situation... see we can all chew gum and walk at the same time.

Oh and here is the best part. This will take me longer than usual. None of these interviews today were done in English. None... so I got a lot of translating to do. But hey, I am flexing my Spanish muscles... about bloody time!
