February 2, 2012
By Jeff
Recently Rick Santorum had to take a break from campaigning for president to be with his 3 year old daughter, Isabella, who suffers from a genetic disease. From what I understand, the genetic condition, known as Trisomy 18, is often fatal. Santorum has said his daughter wasnt expected to live more than 12 months.
I admire his dedication to his family and I suspect Santorum is a good father to his seven children. I can scarcely imagine how difficult it must be to have a doctor tell you that your child has a genetic disease that will likely prevent her from living to adulthood.
Count me among the millions of people who pray that a cure is found so that young Isabella can live a long life. But I pray for much more than that. I pray that federally funded stem cell research can lead to a cure for this and many other terrible diseases that shorten and diminish the lives of millions of people.

In any event, I do hope a cure is found for Santorums young daughter, but it would be especially appropriate if a cure is developed from the federally funded stem cell research made possible by President Obama that Rick Santorum opposes so strongly.

(13,200 posts)In addition to pulling funds from Planned Parenthood for The Susan G. Komen Foundation also decided to stop funding embryonic stem cell research centers making it fully transparent the organization has evolved from non-political non-profit to a partisan advocacy organization.
That means the loss of $3.75 million to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, $4.5 million to the University of Kansas Medical Center, $1 million to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, $1 million to the Society for Womens Health Research, and $600,000 to Yale University. Thats a loss of nearly $12 million dollars in research money to eradicate breast cancer this year alone.
This is a new position for the organization which had previously supported all sorts of scientific research targeted at finding a cure for breast cancer and saving womens lives. Its new position is that the organization will categorically no longer support any embryonic stem cell research.

He can claim to love her, but with that kind of love who needs to have enemies wishing the worst on them?
