Rove: ‘I could’ see 2016 GOP candidate backing same-sex marriage

Republican strategist Karl Rove said Sunday it’s conceivable that the next Republican presidential candidate might support gay marriage.

Speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” Rove was asked if he could “imagine the next presidential campaign, a Republican candidate saying flat out, I am for gay marriage.”

“I could,” Rove responded.

Support for same-sex marriage has since picked up steam in some quarters of the Republican Party. Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), who was, at one time, viewed as a potential vice presidential candidate to Mitt Romney, publicly endorsed gay marriage this month after learning two years ago his son was gay.

Most young people support marriage equality, and Republicans will eventually lose almost every election if they don't change their tune on this subject.

I kind of agree with KKKarl.

I could see the '16 goop candidate SAYING he backs same-sex marriage, but it would merely be one more lie added to whatever else he will say.

Actually backing it,though? No.

marriage in the UK. Practically the ONLY thing on which I agree with that incompetent, economically right-wing, snooty, arrogant twit!

They dont even hold a majority of the GOP anymore.

The moderates and libertarians see the writing on the wall with gay marriage and SCOTUS set to rule on the issue.

I just don't see how they can ever really win again. Our society is moving forward, if they keep trying to go backwards they will be left to the pages of history.

I think their schtick worked for a while with the rise of the religious right, but that is really starting to fade away, not in noise, but in numbers. Our young generations are pro-equality, pro birth control and choice, pro science, pro-green technology, etc etc

If they continue to refuse to change, their base will quite literally die off.
