civil war.

It's brought up more on DU than I ever hear about.

Sure, I occasionally see the Confederate Battle Flag, but, given it's been used by bands, shops and restaurants, I think most people don't even realize how racist it is.

I've probably heard more racist speech coming from a Supreme Court justice than I've heard around here in awhile.

Actually heard a woman the other day use "damnyankee" as a serious epithet.



She informed me "those damnyankees shoulda just stayed up North".

And then in the next sentence, told me she was trying to join the D.A.R. and complained about how expensive the dues are.

Or as a friend of mine likes to call the D.A.R., "the Over-the-Hill Mickey Mouse Club".



I'm one half damnyankee and proud of it. I got ancestors on both sides in the Civil War. Big deal.
