Tony Blair says Iraq would be far worse today under Saddam Hussein

Blair added that the price of the invasion that saw the death of at least 100,000 civilians and 179 British soldiers was "very, very high" but implored people to ask what would have happened had Saddam not been deposed.

Asked whether he minded if "people call you a liar, some people call you a war criminal, protesters follow you, it's difficult to walk down the street in a country", he replied: "It really doesn't matter whether it's taken its toll on me."

Blair added that he had "long since given up trying to persuade people it was the right decision".

1. It's possible they would be worse off for one big reason

Saddam wasn't going to live forever. I think he was already in his 60's. if the sons took over I think things would have gotten really bad.

3. He or his sons would have been toppled during the Arab Spring

...to the delight of about everyone else in the world.

We should have let the Iraqi popular revolution take its course in 1990. The Coalition made a big mistake by letting Saddam's government use helicopters to 'examine the war damage'.

5. Easier said than fine as we've seen in some countries

But I agree that we shouldn't have went in in the first place.

2. Depends on one's perspective

If you are a Kurd or a Shia, you probably believe that you are better off now that you were under Saddam. If you are Sunni, you'll feel you are worse off.

4. It would be a hell of a lot more congested...

According to the British medical journal Lancet, there have been more than 600,000 civilian deaths in Iraq during the past 15 years. Just think if all those people were on the street at rush hour or trying to get into the latest movie. We've done the Iraqi people a great service.

Just in case it's necessary...
