4 Republicans voting for Hagel: Cochran(MS), Johanns(NE),Shelby(AL), and Rand Paul (KY)

Paul is the one who surprises me. He had said in an interview it was possible he would vote for Hagel, because he voted for Kerry and had no more disagreement with Hagel than with Kerry, but he voted for the filibuster, so it is hard to follow the logic.

(Yes, I have a hard time with Randian philosophy -- can we really call it that --, so if somebody could tell me where this fits with the classical obstructionism of the Tea Party)

1. Paul said the filibuster was to get "more information"--whatever. At least

he's being consistent in his confirmation votes, I give him credit for that. Good on the other GOPers who voted for Hagel. What I find striking is that so many R's voted for Kerry, but not for Hagel, who was their colleague for 12 freakin' years, and except for his foreign policy and defense views (which are very close to Kerry's), he was really a true conservative. And not dishonest or a fuck-up. You really have to wonder what went on there.

3. Little Mark Levin is in absolute meltdown mode over the Paul vote for Hagel tonight. It is

entertaining indeed but this will touch off a new battle within the GOP and that is wonderful.

I won't post any streaming links for his show but it is worth the {{{chuckle}}} to tune in and listen for 5 or 10.

Delightful, indeed!~

6. Rand Paul?

Did not see that coming. Wonder what his ulterior motive is on this.

7. Rand Paul doesn't surprise me. He probably likes Hagel's foreign policy views compared...

...to past Secretaries of Defense anyway.
