Sequester Squeals: Republicans Get Their First Taste of the Recession and They Donít Like It

Sequester Squeals: Republicans Get Their First Taste of the Recession and They Donít Like It

By: Sarah Jones
Feb. 25th, 2013

Who would have guessed it would come to this.

Republicans are a mess right now; coming face to face with the cuts theyíve championed in rhetoric for years is causing an utter collapse. Republican staffers are complaining that GOP leadership is giving them no clues about how they can prepare for the upcoming cuts, while leadership is complaining that without being able to pay their staff (public sector workers) a decent wage, including a raise, they canít attract the best workers.

The Hill reported Monday:

One veteran chief of staff lamented that his office hasnít given raises to its employees for several years ó worrying that without a reward for their hard work, it will be difficult to attract bright individuals to Capitol Hill.

ďWhatís the incentive for smart talented people to come work for Congress?Ē the source said.

Head banging on desk. Yes, RepublicansÖ Come to the water. Come slowly to the water. Now drink.

Guess what, Republicans? Most Americans arenít getting raises right now
, and itís not because they suck at their jobs. Also, thanks for making the exact same argument that public sector unions have been making regarding cuts to teachersí pay, etc.

snip//

Can you still eat? Iím not sure weíre on the same playing field yet. See, these cuts are going to take food from babies and seniors. Forgive me if I find that a little more troubling than Republican retention.

snip//

Meanwhile, lost Republican staffers wander aimlessly looking for a few pencils they can cross off the budget as panic sets in. This is but the beginning of the sequester squeals, and itís coming from within the Republican Party. Getting what they wanted isnít working out quite as they imagined.

2. Thanks babylonsistah.. Mother Jones has a list of who else will be feeling it..

12 Ways the Sequester Will Screw the Poor
Nutritional Assistance for Women & Children: The government's main food stamp program is exempt from cuts, but other food programs would take a hit. Some 600,000 women and children would be cut from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, which provides nutrition assistance and education.

4. The lack of smart talented people working for the Republicans hasn't been a problem so far

I'm surprised this is a concern for them. Is "Get a brain morans" demanding too high a salary?

Why on earth would anyone smart or talented want to work for either of them, unless they were criminally smart or talented at embezzlement?

14. The people who voted for the "pain" have all the money and resources they want and need.

They will not feel the cuts to childcare, food stamps, K-12 as most of them have private schools already paid for, all the money to they need to pay the rising gasoline prices, rising food prices, and homes already paid for or mortgages that are a drop in the bucket to them. Only working men and women with families, living on the thread of a pay check or a unemployment check will really feel the pain of sequester. I hope they are happy with the utter destruction of the American society they have yearned for for decades.

35. just not accurate

The republicans received close to half the vote. There is no way that half of the voters in country fit your characterization of wealthy republicans. Most republican voters are not extremely wealthy and many republicans will suffer. No true equality but closer to it than what the GOP wants.

I'm kind of glad about all this. Those putzes in the GOP need to know once and for all they are on the wrong side of public opinion, and all the bluster and acting tough isn't going to do shit for them.

17. It is simply amazing how Republicans can be completely BLIND to a problem, until it happens to THEM.

And how they can forget the lesson they learned the very INSTANT that problem is on someone else's shoulders.

If they got their raises, they'd be back in front of microphones in a matter of seconds, telling everyone how wage stagnation isn't a problem and we have to compete with the world.

They keep trying the same things over and over, believing that this President will cave. They scream, pound their chest's, and pull out their hair. To no avail. He proves them wrong every time! Wow, it sounds a little bit like some folks here!

Great thread, babylonsister!

21. The GOPiggies shouldn't look at this as a sequester. They should just look at it

for what it is and call it Rightsizingģ. This is what has been happening to Americans for decades.

It sucks but they've caused it. Join the fekking club.

30. They're trying to blame it on Obama and no one is buying it

and that's driving them crazy. I saw a few "Obama's sequester" and "Obama caused the sequester" posts on my Facebook yesterday and today and didn't even have to respond because so many moderates, and even some who lean Republican but not strongly, had responded to correct them. I think a few Republican heads might be exploding.

38. Wait until their constituents (teabaggers) start getting laid off from their jobs

And start screaming at them. They'll turn a deaf ear and pretend it's Obama's fault.

But it's not.

Or until the govt. shuts down at the next debt ceiling impasse.

It's their fault.

And America is watching. Even the teabaggers.

Suck on THAT, Boehner, Cantor, Lizzy Graham, John McLame, et al.
