Regarding First Lady Obama and her Oscars Appearance - Gain Some Perspective

The First Lady's appearance on the Oscars should not be receiving this much press and blow back by either Republicans or Democrats.

Instead of critiquing whether the First Lady's appearance at the Oscars was appropriate, I think that what is being completely lost in this is the tremendous respect that the President and First Lady have for our active military and veterans and the service that they provide for the United States. When the rubber hits the road, I can guarantee you that this is the first in a long time that we've seen the White House be so inclusive of people who sacrifice much for this country.

Just a quick look at the track record:

"Tuskegee Airmen Film Being Screened at White House"
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/13/tuskegee-airmen-film-being_n_1205515.html

"Joining Forces with Extreme Makeover Home Edition"
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/09/23/joining-forces-extreme-makeover-home-edition

"President Obama Pays a Surprise Visit to Troops in Afghanistan"
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/05/01/president-obama-pays-surprise-visit-us-troops-afghanistan

"President and Mrs. Obama Visit Troops on Christmas Day:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/12/28/president-and-mrs-obama-visit-troops-christmas-day

... and I know I'm going to get the DU Blessed Sacrament of the Perpetual Outrage to state that this is something that all presidents do, but I can say from personal experience, this President and this First Lady mean it when they pay homage to our military service men and women, and last night was no different.

What sealed their seriousness for our military servicemen and women was their first official inaugural ball in 2013 for his second term (the Commander-in-Chief Inaugural Ball), which I attended, which was primarily attended by military service men and women (including members of the Tuskegee Airmen who are still alive). Essentially, it was a military ball.

It could have easily been one wherein his largest donors were those who were primarily in attendance, but this President and this First Lady focused their efforts and attention on our military service men and women, and last night (including them in the backdrop for announcing the winner for best picture) was no different.

Seriously, pull your heads out of your asses, folks, and gain some damn perspective. Sheesh.

A little surprised to come here this morning to hear alleged liberals pissing and moaning about it.

9. It's the same crowd that constantly holds the first family under a purist microscope.

I lost my cool with them this morning and have no regrets.

10. You're right about that

I was the same way until I figured out there was no human being alive that could ever live up to their absurd and cartoonish expectations.

5. Rec

Because she really did nothing wrong last night. Nothing that hasn't been done before. Something even Laura Bush did. And I loved the men and women in uniform in the background last night.

6. I didn't think much about it one way or the other.

The only thing I thought was that her bangs are a little too long and thick. When she looks down it's hard to see her face. Other than that, I don't get the controversy.

7. Same here

I don't think it's crossed my mind since watching the show. Oh and is it just me or did Seth McFarlane bomb? I seriously doubt he'll be back.

At least since I've been watching these shows.

8. Her appearance is receiving blow back?

I didn't watch the Oscar's. But if she's receiving blow back and bad press for presenting an award, people have way too much time on their hands.

12. It makes my red, white, and blue blood boil

that people aren't properly fawning over the FLOTUS' Oscar appearance.

And is it too much to ask that you include some awesome photos of Michelle in this post?

13. Well said....

and I agree.

There is one poster who made the comment that he/she preferred a "separation of State and Hollywood." Therefore, the First Lady's appearance was not in "proper context." Whoa...that really elevated Hollywood to a level I doubt any of us have taken it to before.

This entire thing is silly...someone invited her, she introduced the best picture...the winner was a Clooney/Afflect film...yea...and she looked gorgeous. Besides...the young troops standing behind her couldn't stop grinning from the experience. Wasn't it worth her appearance for the joy on their faces alone?

Edited for typo...

16. I agree with you completely.

If nothing else, President and First Lady Obama are more authentic than previous heads of state we've seen at dinners and social functions.

Finding something to denigrate them with seems kind of pointless. If I had the chance to announce the Oscar for Best Picture, I would have done so.

Maybe it's envy that drives those who want to see them as somehow less than the rest of us.

Peggy Noonan on today to blast away at the White House. But I guess they figured she'd be too hungover to get out of bed in time for the show...

27. You'd never know that if you listened to the wingnuts.

They are CONSTANTLY claiming that the Obamas don't care about the military. I saw trolls making that accusation just this morning regarding Mrs. Obama's Oscar appearance on another site. It's beyond ridiculous.
