Military Tracer Rounds Cause Raging Fire And Explosions At Texas Gun Range

A Dallas gun range caught on fire on Sunday after a patron reportedly fired military-style tracer rounds inside the building.

A spokesperson for Dallas Fire-Rescue said that the tracer rounds, which ignite like a flare to make projectiles visible to the naked eye, were against DFW Gun Range rules. The rounds apparently hit the back wall of the building, resulting in the four-alarm fire.

By the time firefighters arrived, popping sounds could be heard inside the building as ammunition exploded. At least 50 people were in the building at the time and were able to escape unharmed. One firefighter, however, was injured by smoke inhalation.

“It was pretty scary,” a range patron named Brett told KVUE. “There are a bunch of bullets in there, and there’s not telling how far or when they’re going to go off.”

3. Someone fired a gun inside a building full of ammo?

Does holding a weapon lower the IQ of the gun holder 10 or more points?

Or maybe he was such a poor shot, he had to be inside something to hit anything. This guy needs to be given the total bill for his stupidity*.

7. It was likely an indoor gun range.

They have mats at the back to prevent bullet fragments from bouncing out of the traps. A tracer round (like a flare) would set those alight and the ranges have a lot of moving air to ensure that lead doesn't build up and get breathed in. So if a fire got going, it would have plenty of air. The good thing is that the trap end of the range is the farthest from people, so everyone has a safe path out in the event of a fire.

Also - "* Word not on any ban list that I know of. Not yet anyway." Good one!

6. A lot claim to be law-abiding, but even so a lot of gun "enthusiasts" are of questionable intellect.

8. Go to any range and you will find assholes just like that guy.

Gun owners with no sense of safety, no firearms training of any kind either formal or informal, no respect for anyone else on the range, unwilling to follow range safety rules.

Seeing jokers just like that makes me cringe, because they are too dangerous to be around...and many have a CCW permit.
