February photo contest results

These are the results of the February theme "I see Music":

1st Place and Overall Winner.
"...All I Have To Do Is Close My Eyes" by Mira:

2nd Place.
"Fur Elise" by Earth First:

3rd Place.
"Music of the Night" by Crepuscular:

Finishing out the top ten in order of total votes received:

4th: "Mom, Please Stay In Tune!" by Celebration
5th: "Echos of an Ancient Silence" by Richard D
6th: "Old School" by Turborama
7th: "Birdsong in a Snowstorm" by ConcernedCanuck
8th: "Sound in Suspension" by Bonhomme Richard
9th: "National Guard Band" by HarveyDarkey
10th: "Home Brew" by Solly Mack

Host's special mention:
"1959 Gibson ES-335" by teamster633 was a beautiful image of an outstanding and rare guitar. I felt a soothing chord struck by the warm and mellow hues captured in such an imaginative crop. This image speaks stories of generations of loving hands in the patina of it's finish:

Thanks to all DUers who voted their favorites, and I want to thank the members of the photography forum for the opportunity to host this month's contest. I had a great time and hope everyone else did as well.

I want to heap further praise on the top three for their well deserved recognition.

Mira's "...All I Have To Do Is Close My Eyes" followed the theme so well, I'm sure when the subject closed his eyes he could see the music playing away un-distracted in the darkness behind his eyelids. Very well done.

When I first saw "Fur Elise" by Earth First, I was struck by so much vibrant color framed within a picture of a musician staying warm in drab earth tones. I quickly realized the beauty of the image was that there were no spectators visible. That man seems so rapt, I can tell he doesn't care if anyone's listening at all. I'm saving this picture on my digital frame so I can enjoy it in the future. Thanks for that!

My favorite colors are blue and blue, and I don't know how Crepuscular managed to paint so much of it across so many pixels in "Music of the Night". My focus went straight to the song playing in the middle, looking so fore-lorn in it's stark silhouetted presence. I can almost hear the natural chorus of waves lapping and bird chirping. Absolutely gorgeous!

Thanx again to all.

5. Trumad - come to the photography group in the next few days

and then "follow the bouncing ball".
Having just gotten lucky with first place I'll be hosting the next contest. So right off the bat, when you enter a contest, and come in first, your reward is hosting duties the next month and also cannot enter your own photo while hosting.

Therefore, we like to say the real winner is second place.

That said, if you come and visit and hang out a bit you will quickly realize the procedure:
decision on a theme and the dates for
submissions
preliminary threads
finals and the announcement of the winners.

You are in luck asking right now, because on March 1st the submissions will begin for the Seasonal Contest for "Scenes of Winter". So get busy. Scenes of Winter will run along side of the regular monthly contest for March. In the seasonal contests - spring - summer - fall - winter we have two contests in those months.

8. OK - but realize that

winter can mean many things. Snow and cold is only one of them. That's part of the fun of how to see and interpret a theme.
You can certainly come and see what comes up as a theme for the March contest. I have to think on it a little bit and then we start either following my dictate, or have a poll.

7. Congratulations to all of us.

This contest was a visual treat in how we got to examine how we "see music". Congratulations to all the finalists, and my co-winners in the top places. Earth First and Crepuscular.
It was excruciatingly hard to pick them out because there were so many excellent interpretations of the theme.
A shout out to our host as well. Johnny Ringo chose an imaginative theme and led us through it with a firm and caring hand.
I have a new appreciation for how hosting can be done to perfection, and there is no way to even attempt to come close as I embark on doing it next month.
I love the enthusiasm we have for our work.

Another great contest - thanks JohnnyRingo!

(I'm taking partial credit for the winner as I insisted that Mira visit Preservation Hall during her trip to New Orleans. )
