Sequestration goes into effect in five days with no deal in sight.

Coburn: Obama ‘Absolutely’ Exaggerating Impact Of Sequestration

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) said Sunday that President Obama is "absolutely" exaggerating when he warns of dire consequences of sequestration.

There are "easy ways to cut this money that the American people will never feel," Coburn said on "Fox News Sunday."

Coburn called the sequester "terrible" but also said it would go into effect on March 1.

1. Oh we'll see about that no pain stuff

We're already looking at about 32 hours of furlough and two shut down days at my agency. If other federal agencies are looking at similar numbers then imagine this happening to the airport checkers (longer lines at the airport), national parks (closed during July 4th), port screeners (port facilities closed), food inspection, et cetera. These guys love when government doesn't work and get away with making it not work.

31. Pithy. An admirable trait, particularly ...

when one has nothing to say.

FYI, ProSense has a well-earned reputation for providing DU with well-sourced and informative articles and links. She has never exhibited anything that could be fairly described as reflecting "panic". That includes those posts which you inaccurately characterized today.

You're in a panic about your "intelligence." Don't worry, I doubt the OP is going to do any damage.

17. because it will affect them

there are people who are going to have significant pay cuts and downtime as well as critical services the government will not be able to provide.

that you mock the idea that someone might actually care about this suggests that you are callous and don't care.

23. you mean we're supposed to ignore it because it's not really going to happen?

you know we really did have government shutdowns way back when.

we really did have our credit rating reduced during the budget thing.

it may all be a game, but the effects are real, as if it weren't a game.

26. This sequester may mean that every program receive the same cut.

I like to think that all government programs are good, but some could be more easily suspended than others.

Last night on PBS, it was either the Newshour, Washington Week or Inside Washington, one of the contributors stated that there would be no flexibility to keep 100% funding on air traffic controllers, say, but suspend programs for say, routine interstate highway maintenance. Not to say that the maintenance isn't necessary--I've done my share of driving on crappy interstate pavement--but planes must fly every day and if there aren't enough air traffic controllers, there are greater chances for a plane crash. Assuming that this sequestration will be resolved, the maintenance program may be started up in time for most summer work.

28. Fox News Sunday

Satire disguised as crazy. Republicans are funny. They think they can't get any more unpopular and disgraced than they already are. I guess I missed Tom Coburn's warnings about fellow Republican George W. Bush's economics. Maybe Coburn thought the effects of Bush's Republican policies wouldn't be felt by the American people.

Good old Doctor Bush and his assistant Tom Coburn. They have their prescription ready again.

29. If it happens, it should be the death of the GOP,

once and for all. We may see that, or we may not. It's pretty much up to the GOP, itself, to decide.
