52. If you peel back the layers of this onion...

you'll find that it is women driving the men. Phyllis Schlafly battled the ERA and has never stopped trying to kill feminism. One of her 6 children founded Conservapedia. Ann Coulter, and her little black dress, and it is a female attorney behind those back door laws which have made abortion almost impossible in some states. There have always been women whose only validation is gleaned from the men in their lives. They are the most fearful...they want all women confined to little boxes, their sexuality forever hidden.

but they're certainly collaborators. They get paid big bucks for that support. Shoefly is likely a True Believer, but I think Coulter is only in it for the money.

29. I think it's all about fear of caucasians becoming a minority

in this country. Republicans want white women to have their babies regardless of how they were conceived because they want to outpace beige, brown and black Americans in the demographics race.

They don't really give a damn if beige, brown and black women have abortions, but they can't say so or it would give their game away........

It's not about male domination - it's about maintaining a white majority in this country.

49. I think it is both. Some conservatives want to preserve the white majority

in the country. (The 'we want our country back' folks from the tea party are one example.) Most of them also oppose immigration, since most immigrants are minorities, and gay marriage under the misconception that being gay is a 'white' thing that lowers the white birth rate. If these conservatives were smart (now there's a big IF) they would support abortion coverage in public health sector. That would 'give their game away' but it might help the win a 'game' that they stand to lose otherwise.

Other conservatives want to preserve male dominance over women's bodies. Societal changes in recent decades have given women more rights, access to better jobs and more choice over what to do with their own bodies. There has been a male reaction against this even in the early days, long before there was any consciousness that the US would ever be anything but a majority-white country.

I was working with a civil rights organization in the South in the late 1970's and realized that in many ways feminism was going to impact many white males more than civil rights for African Americans would. The government might force you to hire and promote a few more AA's and let them eat in your restaurant. It might change the laws barring them from living in your neighborhood but few could afford to live there anyway. OTOH, empowering women potentially reached right into the homes and families of white men. (His status as the 'king of his castle' was threatened.) It did not only affect them when they were in the 'outside world'.

And, of course, there are many conservatives who fear that both male domination and the white majority are threatened.

1. There is no context for the quote. "Mental health exception" ... to what?

2. There is no link to a source for this quote.

3. There is no date/place/time as to when/where he is supposed to have said this.

3. A Google search for Mr. Kinzer turns up no news about this quote. Surely somebody else would have commented on it.

4. Mr. Kinzer categorically denies having said this.

I would need some more info before I would believe that even the most reactionary politician would have said something like this. If he did, then he needs to be booted out of office, obviously. But, without a source I will withold judgement.

26. +1 We are being rallied into our Red and Blue Teams.

I tried to find the quote, too. The only reference I can find is in a google search that dates to 2011...and it appears to come from a blog post that can't be accessed.

If it's an accurate quote, and that appears to be a big "IF," it is years old at least.

It's textbook corporate propaganda to try to rev us all up into our Red Team hatred and Blue Team loyalty, *especially* when the corporate faction of our party is committing a serious betrayal of Democratic values and principles that threatens to elicit some pushback from voters. It's the updated version of Orwell's "Two Minutes Hate."

I suspect that Mr. Scorpio is not the only one who ran across this quote this week . It's probably all over the web.

This is how the corporatists keep us circling the wagons and defending the indefensible. They work to keep our defense of the Blue Team visceral and emotional, and based in hatred of the Reds. The same thing goes for the other side, when they are pushing unpopular legislation. They foment our hatred for each other so that we will keep focused on those boiling hot differences, and never unite against the predatory corporate agenda they are enacting against all of us.

The timing here probably has everything to do with the fact that our *Democratic* President has once again offered up unconscionable cuts to Social Security benefits desperately needed by millions of Americans and opposed by the vast majority of Americans even across party lines.

Faced with not only the potential for boiling anger from Democrats who have been betrayed after a campaign promising to protect Social Security....but also the more serious possibility that Americans could actually unite across party lines to oppose this outrage....

Well, it only makes sense that the one percent consider it very important right now to keep us focused on and hating each other, rather than what they are doing to all of us.

This man is a complete, I don't know. Whenever I have seen him or sat in on his committees I just get the creepiest feeling that he has cleaned himself so thoroughly that he is no longer human and his god will still not take him home.

56. Hi woo.

I see this is not established as a true quote so I will back off a little here.

I know this man, have dealt with him mostly through the LGBT group here in Kansas. This is part of the anti woman thing here. Just more of the same and this quote did not surprise me, I could easily imagine him saying it. I know this guy on a much greater level than most everyone posting here. Yes it is happening right now, they are working on the anti woman bills right now.

Letting it go was just my frustration. We have nowhere to turn really, almost the entire legislature is comprised of these types and the tea baggers.

I was reacting to the OP that I did not check. My fault I am aware of that.

I saw a post of yours referring to a thread that was probably this one, or maybe not, about drawing lines between us and them. Just so you know, that was not the reason for my reaction. I am neither an us or them, I am unaffiliated. This reaction is totally appropriate if you knew the history of Lance Kinzer and the way he works. He thinks he is a master at disguising civil rights abuses in his bills. He gets found out.

Here in Kansas it really can't be an us or them game. There are not enough on one side to even squeek and be heard and the Koch money would squelch it instantly if they tried, and they do try.

You can't find anything? Try starting here. http://www.lancekinzer.com/ then you can go to his legislative site and/or the Kansas Legislature site.

In my view, this is not pro-life. Anti-women? Yes....and considering that these men are the ones who won't support the VAWA, I have to suspect they like their women pregnant and lightly battered.
