Obamacare meeting at work today!!!!

The owner of the company where I work called a meeting of every single employee. About 200 people. He told us that he would do all he could to make sure our company would enjoy all the benefits of the program. To say the least a lot of people were surprised, some even questioned if he was being truthful, some questioned if they would be fired etc...

He said his reasoning was simple, happy and in good health workers make his products better. Which in time would make the company more money, and more money for the workers. Everyone cheered.

After the meeting the ten guys I supervise were all huddled together, and were in disbelief, they could not believe the boss truly cared for them. Lets just say there were a lot of smiles at work today.

3. Sorta, he is an elderly man in his late 70s

I think he wants to make sure his workers will be taken care off. Like we already know the new boss will be a current worker, someone who made their way up the company. It wont be a family member.

2. Wow. It's amazing how low corporate America has made the bar.

A boss who won't cut off his own nose to spite his face is seen as enlightened.

The rest of the shmucks out there are making it very easy for someone to be a "good" boss.

4. Please send the details of this to ED, Rachel, and Larry. Your boss deserves the positive press.

And, hopefully it will be good for his business.

And a great way to encourage other employers to follow suit.

5. Awesome! If you'd like to see a DU group to discuss ACA...

Please go here and K&R... http://www.democraticunderground.com/1240227807

Not to hijack this thread, of course, but we all need to know more about this important, beneficial program and not all our employers will be so helpful. And especially so for the many DUers who are unemployed.

8. States are supposed to use proverty levels to determine

Of course some of the governors are delinquent in setting this up but then a fall back system to take care of those unemployed will be covered by federal program. This us not hard, only on the inability for all governors to get their plan in order.

9. An amazing thing happens when bosses start caring about their employees, their employees go

above & beyond for their boss and feel a higher morale and loyalty to their company.

10. It always amazes me that more bosses don't see the benefits

of treating the employees well.

This really isn't anything to be too excited about, except for the time he took to do this. It is the law, and he doesn't have much option than to make sure the company gets the benefits from ACA. So he is really doing nothing for you. But just making the effort to let you know that he cares is wonderful, and you are seeing how that affects the employees.

Why do so few bosses understand this?

11. That's nice

my neighbor works for someone who has said that if Obamacares will be the ruin of this country and that it will cost jobs and people won't find work. My boss has stayed quiet, but I know he feels the same way.

Of course, those that are against Obamacares are the millionaires who have full access to healthcare and don't care that their employees struggle to pay for their premiums if they can actually afford them. Marie Antoinette would have a lot in common with the company owners today - cake indeed.

she still hasnt been fired, nor has the company folded...
when i originally saw the post, i called it BS n that her boss was just trying to scare people into voting the same way he does , she got really mad at me and made it into a big deal.. turned out she was a romney supporter anyway , without his help... lol

gonna give it a full year..
then im gonna go on her facebook and say
'say, i thought you were getting fired if obama got re-elected.. what happened?!'

Like when a Repug co-worker of mine years ago (before Clinton denied it on video testimony) claimed that Clinton admitted his "indiscretion". When I brought that up after Repugs tried him for "lying to Congress", he almost turned purple denying he ever said anything of the sort.

13. From reading this thread and other reports

we've seen in the news.. we can see how wonderfully unique your boss seems to be, Lobo!

Happy for you and I hope there are many more bosses out there who understand that keeping one's employees happy and Healthy is Key!

ObamaCare's goal is to provide affordable health insurance for all US citizens and to reduce the growth in health care spending.

ObamaCare does not replace private insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid.

The Fact is ObamaCare gives 47 million women access to preventive health services and makes it illegal to charge women different rates than men. Get more ObamaCare Women's Health Services Facts

ObamaCare gives seniors access to cheaper drugs, free preventive care, reforms Medicare Advantage, and closes the Medicare Part D 'donut hole. The AARP agrees, costs won't rise because of ObamaCare, if anything, the improvements to the system will decrease the average cost of health care for seniors.

1 in 2 Americans have a "pre-existing" condition they could be denied health insurance for. ObamaCare chips Away at pre-existing conditions until 2017 when there are no more preexisting conditions for anyone, including high-risk customers.

There's too much brainwashing against Obamacare.. If Obamacare is successful then our country wins and .. oh dear.. It Looks Good for President Obama. Can't have that.

25. I was told matter of factly that businesses would be fined

$500 per employee per year if they refused to pay $6,000 a year for "Obamacare" for each employee and taxpayers would pick up the difference. Now I don't know the details of the plan but that sounds awfully ridiculous to me. My point being that we are dealing with some pretty wild stories out there. It seems a lot of Americans have no idea what's good for them. Nothing new about that, though.

14. Our company raised the matching retirement funds this year

I saw the owner of the small, family-owned company, and thanked him for raising the contribution. He looked surprised, and said he didn't think anyone would even notice. It was obvious he didn't expect to be thanked for it.

17. Thanks for sharing......

I haven't had that experience but I have noticed that since the ACA was passed the annual increases in my employee contribution to my employer-paid health insurance plan have leveled off. The average from about 1999 to 2011 was about 5 to 6%. That has leveled off to about 4%. I don't know if it is a trend but I like it!!!!

23. I always complain about adults being able to keep their parents insurance until they're 26

even if they're married whenever people rail against Obamacare. This always illicits, "That's the only GOOD part of Obamacare." Then I say how many people have gone bankrupt because of medical bills, and the added financial stress can cause illness as well, but they don't care about that. Then I feign the same indignity they show for "paying for other people"... *I* didn't have health insurance for a good part of my twenties, but now *I* am forced to pay for other's ADULT children, even if they're married!?!?! Oh the horror.

This usually stops people dead in their tracks. Show them how they and they're offspring really aren't the Horatio Alger stories they imagine themselves to be.

24. My employer did the exact opposite.

Sent out a letter telling us the company was now being 'squeezed' and 'put under pressure' by a whole bunch of new government charges, blah blah blah.

Also hinted that this might mean shorter hours, no raises.... the usual right wing BS talking points.

Anything to crush morale and makes us feel smaller, huh?

And all this despite our company making record turnover in 2012. Greedy a$$holes.

FYI, this is a chain of small-town farm & ranch stores in southern Colorado.... jus' sayin'.

28. I don't know if its Texas or just our company is doing well.

But right now we seem to be really profitable. We are a welding company, mainly we do the framework for buildings, and oil rigs. From my understanding our biggest problem right now is the costs of certain metals, and certain other gases. Like some of the gasses we use have tripled in price during the past couple of years. And I know for a fact on some metals we are forced to buy foreign, comes down to cost. For example aluminum, we can get from Jamaica of a places for 1/3 the price we'd pay here. We do that so people don't get laid off-fired... We have not let anyone go since shit hit the fan back in 08, but we haven't hired much, other then a few people who go work out in the ocean on the oil rigs...

We may need a few new hands. You'll have to know mig/tig welding. Pass test etc... And also you'll have to work out of state, the job will be near Pittsburgh. Its a 2 year job. Pay is no less then 20hr, a lot depends on experience. Meals paid, lodging paid. The thing is the job will be rough, sometimes you'll have to work 12+ hours. The other thing is you only get to come back home every 5th week for three days. Work trucks are used for travel. I'll keep you posted, I'll know more on what we'll need come mid march.
