Here are some bills on tap for the Alaska legislature this coming week.

Lord, help us. We've been ALECized.

Here are some bills on tap for the legislature next week:

1. Coghill's "medically necessary" abortion bill will be considered in Senate Judiciary on Wednesday. If you think you and your doctor need help from Senator Coghill figuring out what "medically necessary" might mean then this is the hearing for you.

2. SB 26 and SB 27 will be considered on Tuesday. SB 26 takes away individual Alaskans' water rights and eliminates their legal 'standing' to protect those water rights in court against a government-permitted taking. This is the latest Parnell assault on our fisheries. SB 27 would put dredge permitting in a compliant state bureaucracy, apparently with the goal of expediting Pebble Mine, should the foreign investors who have proposed it ever get around to filing for a permit. Again, eliminating protections for our waterways probably won't help AK's salmon fisheries.

3. Dunleavy's SB 55 will come before Labor and Commerce. This bill is so indefensible that Dunleavy introduced it without his name on it, listing "Labor and Commerce" as the bill sponsor. SB 55 would allow insurance companies to charge Alaskans more for the same insurance you already have based on your credit score. So if your child had a severe illness and you racked up a large hospital bill that took a while to pay off, Mike Dunleavy thinks you should pay more for your home or car insurance. If you choose not to use a credit card and use a debit card instead, Dunleavy thinks you should pay more. Or, if the unaccountable private bureaucrats who work for the credit score companies made a clerical error and messed up your score, Dunleavy thinks you should pay more. If you thought the Republicans had exhausted your capacity for outrage you need to check out SB 55.

4. And of course, the legislature will continue trying to pass Parnell's oil giveaway.

Here's the irony. Next week is the mid-point of the session, and despite 1 party control and a complete disregard for rules (like referring education-related bills to the education committee), Republicans haven't passed a single bill to address Alaska's energy, educational, or economic needs. The only meaningful bill Parnell & company have passed is HB 80, to allow cruise ships that already visit Alaska to dump partially treated sewage in our waters.

Some accomplishment. Meanwhile, these guys are so distracted by attempting to outlaw abortion, amend the Constitution to privatize public schools, and give insurance companies free rein to rip us off that they haven't focused on the policies that could improve our state's economy.

They are hellbent on destroying this State.

2. it's so disturbing to me.

Someone in the Daily News comments has suggested that anything this legislature does should be overturned because the gerrymandering is still before the court -- in other words, this legislature is illegitimate. I wonder if any legal beagles are looking at that aspect.

It's pretty clear from citizen outcry that these people aren't representing us at all. Did you see the list of organizations that opposed the cruise ship dumping?

Are you in town? I would love to see you and Jodie at our kickoff event for the "Recall Lindsey" effort tomorrow morning at the Loussac, 8:45, before the Anchorage caucus thing. I'm thinking even if we're unsuccessful with this effort, it does draw attention to just how f**ked up this legislature is.

7. Did you guys see this?

Fri – Feb 15th: Oil Industry complains about slow permit process.

John Hendrix, Apache Alaska general manager, told a crowd of energy industry representatives Friday he was frustrated by federal permitting processes that have stalled his company’s seismic exploration and called for their support.

Tue Feb 19th: Parnell introduces bill to “Streamline” Oil and Gas permits.

just disgusting...

14. Why that jackass is complaining is beyond me.

Considering it's more then just the Feds they have to get permission from. We gave them permission to access our property a while ago, imagine having to do that with an entire Borough.

It is funny seeing parnell falling all over himself to kiss oil corporation butt.

4. Where do these people come from?

That is a rhetorical question, just in case. I don't live in AK, I live in PA, just as bad. And there are so many other states in the same shape. Were all these insane state governments elected in 2010? PA was bad before then, but they seem to outdo themselves every day now.

6. Parnell worked for Exxon after the oil spill against the people of Alaska, then for ConocoPhillips

He snuck in there when Sarah left. Everyone accuses dems of driving her out, but I think it was the Koch brothers. They were upset about the new ACES tax, so they put the pressure on, to get her out and their number two in top position.

Now Parnell is doing everything he can to repeal that oil tax. He seems to be a Walker clone, Koch boy all the way.

He is handing out huge tax credits for oil and gas to get here as fast as possible, giving away the state treasury to Koch subsidiaries, giving them the water rights over locals, building infrastructure for oil and gas.

The most ridiculous thing is, they keep telling us we are running out of natural gas, using it as an excuse to fast track permits, meanwhile ConocoPhillips is shipping to Japan who is paying up to 9 times as much in the US, ever since Fukishima put the nuke plants out of commission. Parnell's plant is the only one in the US allowed to sell to Japan right now, so it is a mad rush to drill baby drill before anyone else can get the permit and the infrastructure required online.

Parnell's company ConocoPhillips now has another employee in the legislature, he didn't even quit his job at ConocoPhillips and he was put on the head of the commission dealing with his own tax cuts. He heads the plant where they ship the natural gas to Japan, making excessive profits.

Wes Keller has announced he is ALEC's point man, and has tried to recruit other legislators.

They are openly working for ALEC/Koch...just shamelessly....

and this is after illegally gerrymandering then claiming a mandate to do whatever they want...

Koch brothers took over every state house by buying US legislators into allowing oil speculation, then using their ill gotten gains to steal our democracy right out from under us...

11. Great minds think alike.

I posted this in the Alaska forum on Feb. 2

I think we probably all agree that ACES was the one good thing that Sarah accomplished and that she appeared to be a thorn in the side of Big Oil. Do you think it possible that someone in the industry influenced John McCain and the Republican Party to pick her for VP to get her out of Alaska's politics so that the more compliant and oily Sean could take over? Sarah's so vain that she probably wouldn't have suspected that she was being used, but what better way for them to all operate behind the scenes. Maybe she knew and was paid off (hello, Fox) or was a willing participant all along, who knows, but it just seems too convenient that Sean Parnell and the corrupt bastards are back at the helm.

Are you in Anchorage? Will we see you at the Library tomorrow? It should be a rousing good time.

5. They are scary with their shock and awe tactics, so much so fast, it's hard to keep up

You didn't even mention Anchorage Mayor Sullivan with his ALEC union busting tactics.

And the water rights that you mention, this is stealing the rights from local homeowners to give to Frackers, so locals can't complain with they poison the air and the water wells in the area.

They want to turn the entire cook inlet into the new natural gas gold rush and residents be damned.

Parnell needs to be recalled.

9. I think the whole state government needs to be recalled.

The gerrymandering was illegal, as we all know ... back before the court for a second run ... So they really shouldn't be allowed to legislate anything.

Oh, yes, Sully. I understand that Linda Kellen-Beagel has some new dirt on him. Hope it's good.
