Would you support the following Constitutional Amendment as a response to Citizens United?

insofar as it relates to freedom of speech, the First Amendment to this Constitution shall not apply to speech that refers to candidates in Federal or State elections, within the six month period prior to such elections.

2. I prefer simpler and more direct language: A person shall mean a human being. nt

3. Sorry, nobody took that bait.

However, I would exempt political candidates from 2nd Amendment privileges during that same period to prevent the manifest social evil and dangers of dueling.

4. So basically, candidates shall not have free speech 6 months before elections?

Then how are they supposed to campaign for anything?

7. I highly doubt that Congress would legislate to that effect.

Passing the amendment would not affect anyone's free speech unless legislation was passed to that effect. This amendment would allow Congress to ban or limit corporate expenditure to support or oppose candidates.

5. I don't know what the point to this is

Money should not be speech. I'd favor a constitutional amendment calling for complete public financing of campaigns and redistricting to be done in a more just way so that people's votes actually matter.

8. Would your proposed amendment enable independent expenditures to be banned,

notwithstanding the First Amendment?
