I want a sequestration!

I want to sequester every Senator and Congressperson's salary, staff, office, perks and anything else they get.
They will not have access to any of these until they come up with a compromise that doesn't kick the can down the road for a year or two.
They can meet and live at NoTell Motels until hell freezes over.

As far as separating good ones from bad ones, I am past that. Throw the lot of them out and give all of them a reason to come to a consensus.

2. I thought that most of our senators and Congress-critters already inhabited the NoTell Motels?

It hasn't been very long since we heard of some type of scandal.

5. Them that ain't in the "NoTells are in the C Steet Jesus House.

The difference between the former and the latter is the latter think they are better than u and me. Jesus told 'em so.

Check the story of John Ensign where the guys in the Jesus house told each other they could do no wrong..

3. I disagree

I actually want sequestration now. I dont want a grand deal with cuts to SS & medicare. We can always refund these programs when Dems take back the house but if they raise the age to SS & Medicare or other cuts to those programs..... they will never change them back. So this late in the game were stuck with sequestration because the only way is doesnt happen is cuts to SS & Medicare

6. Its a seductive idea, but I think would backfire

Sequestering their pay and their offices accomplishes nothing but give them yet another rationalization for taking bribes. Without providing any real incentive for a change in how they work, in my opinion. Its not like they are living off of their salary anyway.

Honestly, what we need to "sequester" is their private funding and perks. These should not be put in "blind trusts" or any such transparently pointless type arraignment. Their private fortunes should be turned over to the government that they are supposed to be run, their own skin in the game, and their funds should prosper or suffer commensurate with the accomplishments of the government while they serve. Remove the conflict of interest and tie their fate to that of the people they are there to serve.

I would also propose tying their pay rate directly to the minimum wage in some fashion, and connecting their other benefits to what is available under the programs that they are responsible for (tying their health care, for instance, to medicaide benefits, in some fashion)

Finally, if you made me boss for a day, I would add a new contract to the duties of all our elected federal politicans. After they leave office, whether by choice or not, they would continue to receive a paycheck from the government for 10 years. For those ten years they would be required to donate their time to a charity cause they had chosen prior to being sworn in, and would be prohibited from obtaining private employment during that time.

Making elected office slightly less palatable to the rich, and insulating it just a bit more from the immediate corruption that is so common. Making elected office something you have to be more committed to than making money. I suspect there are some flaws in my idea, but i dont think its completely unworkable. And I think its far more likely to have a beneficial effect on our body politic than a pay freeze.
