Diagram with Pistorious explanation of what happened. Do you believe this?

Last edited Fri Feb 22, 2013, 04:31 AM - Edit history (1)

BTW several reporters are saying bail hearing is more about locking Pistorious into his version of events and not so much keeping him in jail.
Their best detective is now in charge.

3. How can he not know or try to find out

if she is in the bed?
Look at the side he was on. It makes more sense that he'd have to wake her or at least know if she was there.

2. Too scared to turn on the lights, yet was screaming as he moved down the hall

for the intruder to get out of the house?

And Ms. Steenkamp couldn't hear him screaming and thus didn't respond?

5. No, I don't believe it at all... pure bullshit is what it is...

Does he really expect people to believe that the whole time he was crawling through the room, down the hallway & into the bathroom "while screaming at the intruder to get out of his house", that the girlfriend NEVER ONCE said anything at all?? Not a "it's just me honey, calm down" or anything?? Pure bullshit!!

It looks like another fatal case of domestic violence--male on female.

7. This is the kind of issue

I used to feel obligated to have an opinion on. Now that I'm older, I'm comfortable just saying "I don't know, and I don't care."

There have been thousands of murders in the world recently. Having an opinion on all of them would be draining.

I can only say I'm sorry she's dead, and whether he did it or not, I feel bad for him. Her life is gone, and his life is now hell.

11. Agreed

It is certainly a shame that this event occurred, but there is a justice system in place there to weigh the evidence and to reach a conclusion hopefully based upon it. Had there not been celebrities involved we would have never heard about this event at all. That there is makes it no less tragic, but I am not for one going to spend my time to develop an opinion one way or the other beyond this posting as to what or what did not occur.

15. Yes

If he's innocent, certainly. If he's guilty, he fucked up hugely and faces a life of hell.

I'll never understand the sentiment that people who fuck up deserve no empathy. I've fucked up. I would even bet a dollar that you have. I've never killed anyone (or even come close), but I've hurt people. I bet you have. And I've been hurt. That's what makes me empathetic.

I think it's a really regressive idea that "bad people" deserve no sympathy, no attention, nothing. The idea that they're just lost souls is the antithesis of what I consider a liberal mentality. But I know DU loves a good punishment-jerk.

there were some cases where someone is backing their car out and some young kid runs in front and gets hit and dies. i feel bad for people when it's something like that.

but in this case he has too many faults to feel bad for.

This stranger admits that he killed a woman. We know that from the news of his own statements.

Fuck anyone who accuses me of gettting "my hate on." As a trauma survivor, I have a great deal of compassion for people who make mistakes. Just not so much for domestic murderers and misogynistic killers.

I don't know if he managed to botch the whole thing.
Apparently the bail hearing forced the defense to show more of their hand than they might have wanted to.

a fucking dumb shit like that shouldn't have a gun in the first place. to assume it's an intruder before thinking of the other person who is in the home with you.

but i don't believe what he said. i think he killed her. someone else on here said he probably was beating her with the bat so she ran in the bathroom and locked the door and that's why he shot in there.

also if people are this fucking scared and paranoid why don't they put cameras in the home ?

21. That story is filled with more

holes than Swiss cheese. I used to watch a lot of shows about real life people who killed loved ones and I have to say that is probably one of the most ridiculous testimonies I've ever heard. IMO Casey Anthony had the most ridiculous, with this one not far behind.

However, I wasn't there so who knows what really happened. With the info available right now, that story seems extremely far fetched taking into account what we know.

If you believe him you could say "mistakenly, but it wasn't an accident. It's not like he dropped the gun and it went off, for example.

29. By his story: negligent homicide.

Arming yourself, but not turning on the light because you're "scared?" Not waking her up to tell her there may be an intruder? Shooting into the dark through a barrier before you've acquired a target? Leaving the room before you know if you've hit anyone, even when you're so "scared?" All of this isn't likely, but even if we take it as given, it's negligent homicide.

His excuse? "I'm so stupid, natural selection should have gotten rid of me fifteen years ago."

32. The judge's comments are similar to many made here:

Why did he not ascertain Steenkamp's wherabouts?

Why did he not verify who was in the toilet?

Why did Steenkamp not scream back from the toilet?

Why did the deceased and the accused not escape through the bedroom door rather than venture into the toilet?

Why would the accused venture into danger knowing the intruder was in the toilet, leaving himself open to attack? He returned to the dangerous area. What if the intruder was waiting for him?

35. "Why did Steenkamp not scream back from the toilet?" Skull was already bashed. Oscar THEN went back

out of the bathroom, shut the door, and shot. THAT is how he knew EXACTLY WHERE to aim.

39. There was nothing in the prosecution case that the skull was bashed

And I think they would have put that into their case - it would show him to be (a) guilty and (b) liable to be in a violent rage, and thus a danger when on bail.

The point about Steenkamp not screaming back would be that he never shouted about a burglar, because he knew he was attacking her. You don't need to add things that there's been no evidence for, like an attack on her with the cricket bat.

His celebrity and so on is perhaps overshadowing the facts of the case. We shall see I suppose.
