I hate YAHOO

It has been my home page where I even have mail, can keep track of investments and get a glance of news.

But it came with a new version that I hate. It told my spouse that the new version is not compatible with the Safari version used, and the new downloaded Safari version is not compatible with... the Mac.

Firefox automatically "updates" it - I have no way in saying anything.

I put my Safari, SeaMonkey and Firefox on a disc, but the old Macbook still cannot use them. At least, SeaMonkey was semi operable but behaved strangely.

DU, is OK, but is limited to news that members put on...

Why do they think that they have to "upgrade" and force us to purchase new computers?

1. I'm with you...

My smartphone just recently had a firmware OTA update that I cannot stand.

In fact, I haven't had a 4G connection since the update, and pages load much slower than before.

Unfortunately the only way to go back is to root my phone in a process that I'd rather not get into.

I'm with you, let ME do what I want with MY electronics...

2. They had some bullshit today about our troops doing without body armor and the sequester ....

... like the price of one aircraft carrier wouldn't be enough to buy body armor for every American citizen.

11. But the jokes on them now, BainsBane...

The new CEO is a huge supporter of President Obama and bundled for him. She's also the youngest CEO in America of a Fortune 500 company and she took over just 8 weeks from delivering her first child.

Marissa Mayer graduated from Stanford with an Engineering degree. She was either the 18th or 20th employee at Google and is credited for Google's famous home page, too.

The teabaggers are getting fried more and more in the message boards at Yahoo.

Things change. Yahoo's moving in a very good direction.

12. what do you mean by fried?

The Teabaggers constantly claim that Yahoo is liberally biased, yet insist on swarming there.

14. I really should have said drowned.

For too many years, I cringed at the comments by the teabaggers (and preteabaggers) who commented there. But there is kickback now and it's really cool to see how brilliant the Lefties are and in how they handle the nuts. Like this past election showed, demographics are really changing and Yahoo, especially now with Mayer there, is changing.

What's funny is what you said is true that they have always claimed Yahoo was liberal, even when it wasn't, and now they are swallowing the fact that Marissa is the CEO.

6. Agreed

however, it is working with my version of safari. I really don't like it at all, but that is where my mail is currently and it would be a major pain to change.

7. The reason is

so they can install newer, "better" spyware that would be a noticeable performance hog on an older computer.

9. I like the new home page. Much cleaner and less ads.

Marissa Mayer, the new CEO who was the 18th employee at Google and designed their front search page, is out to remake Yahoo.

Do you have an older Mac? My old Mac would not even play YouTube videos anymore, not because of Flash or YouTube, but because of Apple.

I wound up buying a new Mac for $1,600. In hindsight, I wish I'd waited and bought the new Windows Surface Pro Tablet with 128 GB which is a full computer that acts like an iPad but also works with Office, MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint and is amazing.

I'm really sorry you are having trouble and hope you can fix it because Yahoo has the best financial site on earth and if you follow the markets there is no substitute.

Yes, there are a lot of old right-winger cling-ons from the past there and they clutter many of the message boards, but their heads are exploding because Marissa bundled money for President Obama and the Democrats.

I use both Macs and PC's interchangably every single day and have since the 1980's (that's how old I am), but for computing, it kills be to say this, but I'm finding Microsoft, especially Windows 8, an amazingly powerful tool.

Good luck. I think you don't hate Yahoo as much as you miss it. I hope you can get it back.

So, here's hoping you can get your Yahoo on.

17. Why do you say cleaner?

There is a very wide band across the main photo and several photos right below it - this whole section takes more than half of the page. The finance link on the left does not exhibit the green up or red down arrows, and there is no link to the games..

The first page exhibited such huge letters that first thing I had to do was zoom out couple of times.

My poor spouse did not realize that there was an option to go back to the old Yahoo Mail and ended up with no browser. Has now gone back to reload all the original programs that came with the MacBook way back in... 2007. We were thinking of getting a new Mac and this decision may now move from sometime in the future to the near future.

My concern is that if the new Mac will come with the newest operating system we will not be able to exchange programs like MS Office or Quicken. Last year I purchased a new Quicken 2007 version that can read all my old files, going back to the mid 90s but will not be able to run on the new OS version - tiger?

Sigh... I wish those of us, who do not need to get the newest version of anything can continue to operate in old versions of programs and operating systems.

Few years ago we bought a family member a new laptop and a printer because, one reason, cartridges were no longer available for the old printer.

Thank you for your kind words. Will wait and see.

13. I have a Mac and use Safari.

In fact, it is the only browser that really works well with my Mac. I also have Firefox and I hate it.

15. Me, too.

I used Chrome with my iMac for a while, but it began to have too many issues.

Firefox allow "no tracking" which I like, but damn, if it isn't a demanding browser...

So back to Safari I returned with my Mac.

At my business PC's, I use Explorer.
