Tea Party Group Wants To 'Soften' Slavery In TextbooksSome political groups are asking Tennessee lawmakers to re-write history, or at least how it is taught. Some members of the Tea Party say what's in your kid's textbook may be giving them a negative opinion about our nation's founding history. http://www.wcyb.com/news/30309212/detail.html

Bullshit. If they hadn't had slavery there wouldn't have been plantations is what they really mean. There would have been plenty of regular farmers to take up that acreage. It's always about the 1%, even back then.

"...had there not been slavery in the South, the economy would've fallen," Rieck said. So, logically, the economic prosperity enjoyed by the few wealthy Southern aristocrats was gained by violently coerced redistribution upwards... perhaps we should have that discussion... |

|
The main reason it's been suppressed is that it portrays slavery as a pleasant, extended family relationship. It may have been so in some white owner's minds but I'm sure slaves did not feel that among themselves. In a way it's a shame because the Uncle Remus animated sequences are very well done and some of Disney's funniest animation. |

35. Doesn't matter, kids are too smart and savvy about the world today.
|
They know when they are being lied to. My 7 year old already has had discussions with me on racism and slavery. Kids aren't stupid and they can get access to info about history on the internet. They don't need a whitewashed bullcrap version of a history text book to tell them about the Founding Fathers.
