Zappa nailed it in 1986
Reaching back in time here... check out this edition of Crossfire where he takes the three OUTRAGED panelists, bends them collectively over his knee and gives them a good spanking, while pointing out that he is the only true conservative in the room and warning that Reagan was steering us toward a fascist theocracy.
Part 1: Part 2: Great stuff. So glad I found this, I had not seen it before and just happened upon it.

1. A battle of wits with unarmed men
|
If there's one type of person I'd like to see banished from the face of the earth, it's the morally certain person who thinks he has a gawd given right to curtail everybody else's language and/or behavior.
And Zappa was right about one thing, he was the only true conservative on that panel, working to conserve our civil rights to free thought and speech. The ranters opposing him were radical reactionaries who wanted to do with those precious rights. Know your enemy. Also notice they are only railing about "sins" they have no desire to commit, themselves. |

2. I have a co-worker who rants about "true conservatism" a lot.
|
Last edited Thu Feb 21, 2013, 04:42 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I told him yesterday I haven't seen a true conservative in decades, but that I'd seen a shitpot of right-wingers. I explained to him that true conservatives wouldn't truck with religious hijacking of their party and would be for all kinds of individual rights that the current crop of misfits gleefully sneers at and mocks. We talked about LGBT rights, drug policy and foreign policy. I'm not going to say I penetrated his armor, but I damn sure made a dent in it. He was reduced to nodding and fumbling for his iPhone to pretend he had an important phone call coming in silently. He brought it up and I finished it.

4. funny just how outclassed the anchors and Lofton were by "Mr." Zappa
|
Frank ran circles around them, crushed their arguments, and exposed them as lightweights.
And they knew it was happening, and they didn't like it one bit. |

8. I loved the part where Lofton asks him
|
if the Founding Fathers had his filth in mind when they penned the First Amendment and he says "Absolutely."
Then Lofton asks how much money Zappa makes peddling garbage and Zappa replies, "Millions. Millions." The outrage over the 'Hot For Teacher' video by Van Halen was anachronistically pathetic also. I bet all three of Zappa's contemporaries would look back on that particular Crossfire episode and wince. |

13. That 'intent' of the 1st amendment question sounds awfully familiar and relevant to a modern debate
|
around the 2nd amendment, doesn't it?
There are a couple different directions I could take that observation, but I'll just submit this one: fascinating to see a republican so clearly illustrate the 'do as I say, not as I do' concept. |

It got to be painful to watch that guys toupe while he was making an idiot of himself. It's such a shame we lost Frank, he was far too young.

10. "The illusion of freedom..."
|
“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”

14. Ironic
|
Kind of Ironic that a thread about Frank arguing against censorship of words that may be construed to be offensive by some is running at the same time a number of members are going through meltdowns over in meta over the use of some coarse verbiage that was used in the "Mom hires a stripper thread". Wonder what Franks take would have been. Not sure if the OP specifically posted this thread for that reason but if so, well played.
