1. Both parts are hilarious

You're focusing on the nonsense claim "we don't want your guns... just be responsible"... right?

Or have you missed the 23,000 posts here in recent months that do want the government to do more than just ask people to be responsible?

2. You are obviously not paying attention

There has been no proposal I have seen to take any gun from anyone.

If there has been one, state what you think it was.

Every AWB proposed has been prospective, but you are free to imagine whatever fake shit you want.

Likewise, background checks for all transfers don't take a single gun from anyone.

4. Says the one who didn't read the post you replied to?

It's fine and dandy to pretend that "the government" speaks with a single voice (and that this is the voice the "gun toter" responds to)... but the reality is that there's a public debate going on (you know... we the people?) and you can see it right here on DU every day.

And the opposing side most certainly contains a large number of people who want the existing guns removed. Pretending that it's irrational to debate that position isn't productive.

5. Identify the bill or proposed bill that would take one gun from anyone

Yeah, there is a "public debate" on whether Muslims can build places of worship, too. But proposals that have zero chance of passage are often held by people with extreme beliefs.

There is no serious proposal that would take a single gun from anyone.

8. Why?

There is no rhetorical rule that requires people to ignore policy posiitons until they are proposed legislation.

It's the OPs straw man to pretend that the interlocutor is the government.

Can you identify the bill or proposed bill that merely asks gun owners to be more responsible?

For instance... I understand that HR 226 sets up a $2,000 tax credit for turning in a now-outlawrd AR-15. Is you definition of "be more responsbile" - "we won't take it... but we expect you to give it to us"?

Upon further review... I note that the proposed WA law originally included language that said that you could not continue to possess one of the banned weapons unless you allowed law enforcement to enter your home annually to check that you stored it properly.

10. Yeah, so?

Your first example is just plain silly. If you don't want to participate in a buy-back or tax credit, that's up to you.

The second one is most certainly directed to "be more responsible". Yeah, so store it properly and keep it.

Oh, I see, you want to leave it out where thieves or kids can get ahold of it. Is that it?

Be responsible and nobody is taking your guns. You people just can't quit making shit up, because your paranoia is part of the package.

11. I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised...

...that those who aren't fans of the second amendment would also have no trouble ignoring the 4th.
