Is it just me, or is the network news becoming irrelevant anymore

one of the lead stories in National news (and mentioned on local network affiliate) is Duchess Kate's baby bump!

REALLY? Our nation is on the edge of another possible financial collapse, our soldiers are still dying in Afghanistan and iraq and national news is talking about a Royal's baby-bump as if it is newsworthy to AMERICANS.

This shit used to be pedaled on entertainment tonight and in tabloids. Who gives a flying you-know-what?

Rant over, thank you for listening (reading).

1. It is the news in this country, not you!

It all started in the late 1970's when it was determined by networks the news needed to be happy and not so sad.

Both the delivery and content was changed i.e. from information to entertainment.

Did I mention the news became cheaper to produce?

2. Stop watching

If there is no point to watching the national news, why watch it?

It's a simple solution.

5. That's true!

I remember when I used to like to do that, too.

But I feel so much better since I gave up using my TV for anything but ad-free entertainment -- I would recommend it to anyone.

3. I think our "news" has been infotainment for awhile now.

I rarely tune in. I usually watch my local news just for the weather. I can't remember the last time I watched national network news or cable news, other than during a disaster of some sort. I do occasionally tune in to MSNBC's nighttime lineup.

6. worse than Ntewwork news is 24 hour news

they have 24 hours yet rarely do they use it to go in depth into any story. It is 24 hours of gloss. What is the point of those networks if they refuse to use their time productively?

The print has always been a better source of news. You simply can read more news in the same amount of time that you can listen to someone read the news.

10. Its not you, the news is getting worse it appears.

they would rather talk about celebrity fashion, or other worthless subjects and HLN is probably one of the worst in that regard(with CNN about the same). The only reason why I watch news nowadays is to read the bottom ticker.

12. It's true, propaganda rules the MSMedia as it's owned by 6 corporations

Read a few books, or just one, about propaganda and the history of it. Corporate and government propaganda has constantly grown over the last 100 years and it's to the point now where propaganda is 99% of what's on the local and national news in the U.S..

Also, check out RT America and Democracy Now with Amy Goodman for some real news. A person will learn more in 1 day watching them than they would learn watching the MSMedia propaganda for an entire year.

14. Stories about celebrity baby bumps are nauseating enough.

I'm getting sick of reading news about the royal baby. When did this shit become news?

15. Actually...

There was only one US casualty in Iraq in 2012 and none this year. There hasn't been a US casualty in Afghanistan in the past 30 days (knock on wood).
