(66 posts)Why don't you try for the higher paying police job that you say involves less work. Just wonderin.

(2,770 posts)to acknowledge that "there are a few" police officers who actually do their job.
But then there was that self-serving need to add "most just want to get a paycheck and go home without any trouble."
As we all know , the average security guard is not in it for the paycheck, but
due to their unwavering desire to serve and protect the public at large.
In the interest of straight-talk and real honesty, shouldn't this OP have been entitled "I'm a security guard, and I don't get the respect I feel is my due"?
And you might consider that your self-serving and utterly ridiculous rant might be part of the reason you don't.

(2,770 posts)to preach to you about something you are Exrteamly familiar to.
I can't tell you how happy I am to know that people like yourself are not becoming cops, due to all the corruption and all, and are instead becoming security guards - who, as we all know, are incorruptible.
In my job, I have interacted with many SGs. MOST of them recognize that they are being paid to do a job, and they do that job well. MOST of them are honest about what they do, and why.
You, on the other hand, exemplify the cop wannabe you insist you're not. And so you feel a need to disparage that very thing you cannot be.

(2,770 posts)... go away!"
This isn't about being a security guard. Or a cop.
It's about something else. And I think professional help might be in order here.
That's not snark. That's real concern.

(9,905 posts)Just saying. Not sure if there is help for that.

(429 posts)They came into my home over something the local police said was no big deal.
Some rich fucks that had a vendetta against me pulled strings with a golfing buddy or two and got the state police involved.
They took some of my possessions, told me I'd get them back in less than two weeks. It was two-and-a-half years before I ever saw them again. And the $1000 computer no longer worked.

(9,186 posts)I have been in healthcare security since 1979 and have the utmost respect for law enforcement.
I have run into maybe one or two police officers who did not respect my position and they werenot interested in doing their job (they are definitely in a very small minority). I didn't take their lack of ambition as an excuse to use a broad brush painting a negative image of police officers.
When I call the police, they respond, they listen to me and they believe me and act on that. I know my job and I know the law. I don't call the police unless the police are needed.
They ask if we have useful video and could we burn a copy for their report. I have never had an officer fail to provide the incident report number after responding to our call.
(I am a potential witness in their case! I am the one who called them! they need me and I need them.)
It is a symbiotic relationship where one professional respects the other professional and we help each other succeed in their respective jobs.
three weeks ago a trainee and I were getting thumped pretty well by a psych patient and ER called 911. The police were there so goddamn fast and they helped us control the person until they could be restrained. I love the police.
Actually, in many cases, the private security officer makes more than police officers in many states!
That is my 2-cents worth.
