Photos from the huge climate change rally at the White House last weekend (picture heavy)

This past Sunday I spent in DC. I took a chartered bus with 300 other people from Vermont to attend the Climate Change Rally with Bill McKibben, 350.org, and co. There were people from all over the country there. Lots of them. I've been to several climate change rallies in the past, a few at the White House, and this one was by far the biggest. Estimates were 50,000 but I think that was conservative. It was FREEZING and the wind was fierce, but that didn't stop people from coming out. We started with big pep rally at the Washington Monument, great speakers. Then we filed out into the streets and marched to the White House. It was huge. If you stood up on the curb, all you could see is a sea of people in both directions. The main issue at this rally was to tell the President to stop the Keystone XL pipeline. We found out he was actually playing golf with Tiger Woods while we were rallying outside his home, but I'm sure he was briefed on the event. It was very inspiring to be there. The creative signs people had everywhere were great. Here are a few photos, and a link to the whole album on Facebook.

21. I met some of Keystone opposition at Occupy Koch Town (Whichita). Several cities were

there, including a very impressive group from Tulsa OK Occupy which included some very fine students from TU, all of whom were just delightful people and completely dedicated to opposing the XL pipeline. Sierra hosted that Occupy event in Wichita, so it was good to see the different cohorts come together and get to know one another.

As I am pretty sure that they are some of the leaders of their movement, I'm certain that Tulsa Occupy was in D.C. this weekend. I am so very happy that there was such a huge group for them to work with on this issue.

Fuck keystone, and Fuck the Tar Sands (and thats coming from a Canadian). You guys kill the pipeline, cause we have our hands full at home trying to kill the other pipelines, and kill the Tar sands in general. Deal? deal.

23. The first photo and likely more are by young, kick-ass photojournalist Jenna Pope.

She's done superb work covering the protests in Wisconsin and also Occupy Sandy Relief.

26. any mass-media coverage of the event?

cos, ya know, if the T party shows up in DC with 500 flag-waving idiots looking for porta-potties, it makes headlines all over the country.
