GOP Irony - Plenty Of Money For Universal Health Care In Iraq But None For US

It is truly ironic that the GOP cared so much for the Iraqis that a lot of our tax money was used to free the country and help establish universal health care in Iraq. They are now in chaos and need that care for all the violence. Yet in the US they are against helping our own citizens and even cutting disabled vets benefits.

WHOSE SIDE ARE THESE BASTARDS ON!?

2. There Is No Recent Link During the War Universal Health Care Was Being Set Up

while the Iraq government was being set up. I am sure that it has continued. Very little is being covered in Iraq right now. They are having a lot of problems with their new government and there is a possibility of ciivl war. Now that US troops are not present Iraq is now pretty much off the radar.

The two wars alone will have cost us over $2 trillion dollars. Iraq and Afghanistan have not been totally self sufficient. I doubt they have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance companies operating in those countries. Much of the populace is in extreme poverty. Someone is taking care of the sick and wounded. Our tax dollars largely went into military operations and supporting a lot of their infrastructure.

5. The Links To What Happened Would Have Been After Iraq Fell.

The provisional government we set up right after the invasion needed to set up a medical system to treat the continuing casualties that went on for years. Out tax money was needed to help supply the hospitals which were in chaos for a very long time. So essentially it evolved into a universal system that our tax dollars pretty much paid for because the Iraqis did not have the money or income.

I am sure that after things settled down and we left they probably continued with what was left. Right now as I said there is little coverage of what is happening in Iraq.

The point of my post is that the GOP had little problem with sending so much of our tax money to rebuild a country that we invaded. Now they say we cannot afford to take care of our own citizens who cannot afford their health care. I doubt that many of the Iraqis at the time had the money to pay for the care of their wounded.

The irony is that we spent so much money abroad. And we are still spending huge sums of money every day building up Afghanistan before we leave. We are also still supplying and training their army and will continue even after we leave.

10. I found a link from 2004. The OP is definitely true.

I searched on universal health care, iraq....and I got a bunch of good hits.

This is one of them:

http://seattletimes.com/html/nationworld/2001870042_iraqdig03.html

"WASHINGTON Fresh from a two-day weekend visit to Iraq, the Bush administration's top health-care official defended the $950 million that will be spent to help Iraq establish universal health care.

Congressional Democrats have criticized the administration for helping Iraq to establish universal health care without doing the same for U.S. citizens.

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said yesterday there are major differences between the two countries that defy simple comparisons.

"Even if you don't have health insurance," said Thompson, who toured medical facilities in the Iraqi cities of Baghdad and Tikrit on Saturday and Sunday, "you are still taken care of in America. That certainly could be defined as universal coverage. Every American's health care is far superior to what the health care is in Iraq."

13. Thompson Is A Liar

Thanks for the link. Did not realize the info was around. Should have googled it. Granted the Iraq system was a mess after the war. Still we had to prop it up and improve it to stabilize the country.
