Cardinal Mahony, deeply implicated in child-rape cover-up, forgives those angry at him for it.

Cardinal Mahony, who is as deeply implicated in the cover-up of child rape under his authority as Bostonís Cardinal Law, writes the following on his own blog:

In the past several days, I have experienced many examples of being humiliated. In recent days, I have been confronted in various places by very unhappy people. I could understand the depth of their anger and outrageĖat me, at the Church, at about injustices that swirl around us.

Thanks to Godís special grace, I simply stood there, asking God to bless and forgive them.

He is forgiving the victims of child-rape, and those who speak up for them? Words fail. Anger overwhelms me.

2. At what point does part of that label fall onto those that continue to support this church?

When do those that give time, money, and support to the catholic church that allows these evil men to stay in power and evade justice, get to share that well-deserved label?

They don't *really* know what's going on, so it's all good for them.

23. When I said at work that the Pope is a pedophile enabler

A catholic co-worker accused me of insulting her faith. Wrote me up and now management tells me I did something wrong because it's about religion and they want me to apologize to her.

I will not apologize for telling the truth nor am I responsible for what goes on in her head.

3. "At about injustices that swirl around us"

Sexual abuse of minors and the cover ups are an injustice? Hey Cardinal......ever hear the term criminal? Of course not.....the RCC is above civilian law and everything coming out just proves it.

10. I don't understand how anyone could be Catholic (speaking as a recovering Catholic).

I can only surmise that people are not paying attention to the words of Christ, but rather paying homage to their heritage. I used to self-identify as an Irish Catholic, like my Irish-born mother and my very observant and pious grandparents (Dad's side of the family ironically were heavily involved in anti-Papist activity, being various shades of Puritan, Methodists and a bevy of other offshoots after the Great Awakening). But a funny thing happened; I actually started really studying the New Testament and realized that most of what they were teaching was a giant crock of shit. The priest buggering was an open secret in our parish (even for those of us who attended public school...the CCD students picked up on the "don't get caught alone with Father so-and-so" pretty quickly) and, as I came to find out, all the other parishes.

Looking at their history (indulgences and the like) and their vast real estate holdings, their collection of priceless art, subjugation of women, killing people for "heresy", looking the other way when the Nazis were killing people, their ridiculous policies about condoms in Africa etc etc etc how any person could support these unholy evil bastards is beyond my comprehension. When I've asked my still-practicing family members why they still call themselves Catholic, knowing all they know now, they've got no good reason to impart.

Boggles the mind.

15. To show how much this digusts people, even The American Conservative is aghast:

Catholic readers are choking my in-box with this link to retired L.A. Cardinal Roger Mahonyís latest blog entry, in which the sociopathic prelate feels sorry for himself because people are judging him for his role in facilitating the rape of children by his priests. You have to read the whole thing to believe this guy.
...
One of my readers, an orthodox Catholic theologian, sent the link and added:

I have to think heís a clinical narcissist, a sociopath. Iíve known a few. This isnít merely ego or being a strange assertive duck, but something clinical. If not demonic.

16. To get a real idea about the scope of this scandal is almost impossible (cont)

By the Church's own admission, about 4% of US priests were accused of raping children.

According to the FBI, aproximately 37% of all rapes are reported to the police. Considering that we are talking about children (who are less likely to report or be believed) and allegations against priests (who were and are quite capable of applying tremendous pressure on parents not to report anything) it seems likely that the actual number of priests involved in this scandal is significantly higher. It seems entirely possible to me, based upon these numbers, that virtually every Catholic Priest in America was either involved in or aware of this abuse taking place.

Basically they all knew, and they were all fine with it.

This was business as usual for these guys. Nor do I believe for a second that this is a Catholic only phenomena.

19. Even if they weren't fine with it

Enough of them knew that they shouldn't have kept quiet about it. Anybody that covers up for a pedophile is a depraved piece of crap, too. A normal human being seeks to protect children.

He will not be returning, and joining Cardinal Law as an exile.

It is far past time that we declare the Vatican a state sponsor of terrorism, and place them firmly in the Axis of Evil.
