Elizabeth Warren's Aggressive Questioning Prompts Anger From Wall Street

Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-Mass.) meeting with bank regulators Thursday left bankers reeling, after the politician questioned why regulators had not prosecuted a bank since the financial crisis.

At one point, Warren asked why big banks' book value was lower, when most corporations trade above book value, saying there could be only two reasons for it.

"One would be because nobody believes that the banks' books are honest. Second, would be that nobody believes that the banks are really manageable. That is, if they are too complex either for their own institutions to manage them or for the regulators to manage them," she said.

That set off angry responses to Politico's Morning Money. "While Senator Warren had every right to ask pointed questions at today's Senate Banking Committee hearing, her claim that 'nobody believes' that bank books are honest is just plain wrong," emailed a "top executive" to the financial newsletter. " Perhaps someone ought to remind the Senator that the campaign is over and she should act accordingly if she wants to be taken seriously."

2. 'nobody believes' that bank books are honest is just plain wrong,

Well, he might be right. I'm sure there are a handful of people that think banks are honest. Say 1% or so.

9. This says it all.

Instead of answering Senator Warren's legitimate questions, Wall Street responds with a personal attack on her and the irrelevant comment that the big banks have been tested more than a college student.

So, if the the big banks have passed so many tests, why is their stock value lower than their book value?

That is an excellent question, and I would like to know the answer.

21. this, and that since she WON her campaign,

she is now a sitting UNITED STATES FUCKING SENATOR, and should be treated with the RESPECT that that Office is properly accorded, and maybe he should watch where he shoots his mouth off from now on.

fucking cockroach.

Go get 'em, Liz. We ALL have youe back, even the Con's who thought the banks should have been allowed to fail as a punishment for their own idiocy (even if those same Con's will never actually cop to it).

36. Yeah, that comment kind of stuck in my craw too.......

It's like they expect a double standard between campaign rhetoric and actual practice and it's childish when a politician actually DOES what he/she says that will do.

11. Its interesting they didn't respond with any FACTS refuting her statements. Also, I read a threat

in that last statement in the OP.

What does that even mean "if she wants to be taken seriously"?

She's a US Senator who is now wielding an extraordinary amount of power over regulations that will directly impact them. It seems kind of unwise to purposefully try to bully her. Yet they are... weird.

What about all of the buffoons from the Tea Party?

This is sexist and I hope Rachel et al are all over this.

It seems they are just proving her right. They are not dealing with some bumpkin who just fell off a turnip truck. This is one smart, well-educated and well-informed woman. I don't think that they want to treat her as if she were a piece of crap on their shoe.

But when did the bankers ever listen to me!

23. . . .

"Perhaps someone ought to remind the Senator that the campaign is over and she should act accordingly if she wants to be taken seriously."

THAT was a shot across the bow and that wasn't aimed at her. It was aimed at the Democratic Party Big Bosses and a warning to keep her in line, as it were. The troubling thing is, the Democratic Party Big Bosses tremble when Wall Street roars (whines?). If they didn't, she'd be heading the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau instead of being a U.S. Senator. Instead, the Party Bosses buckled and chose a Wall Street insider to "protect" the consumer. It actually turned out well for We the People, but be aware that it won't only be Wall Street gunning for her. It will be the Democratic Party should she decide to go on to higher office.

Now they are being taken to task and they can't stand it.

Now I know my admiration for Elizabeth Warren was well-founded. Go Elizabeth!

She is not running to the cameras

Huff post is reporting what she did, she is not running to Huff to report.

That is the sign of a good statesman(woman).

Not being a great media star.
Being a great Senator doing her job.

the old fashioned way.
By working not bloviating.

"Who does this women think she is? Doesn't she know that Congress exists to represent us rich people and no one else?" Oh and to answer your question, they think they are the John Galts of the world. I'm really hoping they all decide to go hide in some canyon somewhere.
