McCain Admits Republicans Put Grudges Ahead of National Security in Hagel Filibuster

Republicans have offered up a litany of excuses for filibustering former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagelís appointment as Defense Secretary, and none of them make a lot of sense. But the award of biggest fail belongs to John McCain.

. . .

Of the many reasons given for obstructing the Republican nominee, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) offered the most insane. After McCain threatened to block Hagel unless the Obama administration answered his questions about Benghazi (McCain was too busy giving interviews on camera complaining about the lack of information on Benghazi to actually attend one of the briefings on Benghazi), and the Obama administration complied, McCain moved the goal post again. Now heís holding a grudge over Hagelís criticism of Bush. Apparently McCain thinks that aligning the party with George W Bush will be helpful.

Yesterday McCain cried to Fox News that Hagel has said mean things about George W Bush and people donít forget that:

To be honest with you Neil, it goes back to there is a lot of ill will towards Senator Hagel because when he was a Republican, he attacked President Bush mercilessly. At one point said he was the worst President since Herbert Hoover. Said the surge was the worst blunder since the Vietnam War which is nonsense. And was very anti his own party and people. People donít forget that.

If ďpeopleĒ (aka: Republicans) are as petty as McCain said they are, then that would mean that the Republican Party put their grudges about Bush ahead of national security.

9. This was one of the points made in the book

It's Worse than you Think. The authors pointed out that the Republicans in Congress were deliberately stalling on votes because they were trying to 'get back' at Democrats, President Obama especially.

12. Who the hell is this x-President Bush??

There was no X-president Bush during the whole 2012 election and now we have an X-President Bush.
Did they dig him up from the same grave where they put Raygun??

John McCain has shown that he is not fit to be a senator. He should resign today.

13. That's right, McCain

risk the national security of the entire country to avenge a perceived insult to the person who maligned the living shit out of you in the 2000 primaries. Makes sense to me, not.

17. Republicans and their supporters

They all exhibit the worst childish traits. They're not called right wing extremists for nothing.

Extremely defensive. They are so paranoid that someone is going to make them look stupid, probably because deep down they know they sound ridiculous. But as we all know when we run into an extremely defensive minded person, its impossible to have any kind of meaningful dialogue with them.

Extremely sensitive. Never heard so much whining. This is in direct comparison to when they win and we are subject to extreme gloating. Even if you catch them in a lie, its all about them and their hurt feelings.

Extremely vindictive. Going way beyond the pale. Valerie Plame is just one example.

Extremely hypocritical. Under Bush Jrs watch, 12 attacks on U.S. embassies, resulting in 53 deaths, with no calls for reviews, they even resisted a 9/11 commission. Yet Benghazi is deemed the worst ever and worth the time and money of raking Dems through the coals.

carrying water for the man that slandered him during the 2000 election. McCain might as well be Dubya's BDSM slave for all the abuse he takes from him and yet still seems to love him.

if the Democratic Majority leader had a fucking pair and really done some rule reforming we wouldn't even have to hear about any reasons these jerks have for filibustering this nomination.

28. They put their grudges and vendettas ahead of EVERYTHING. And EVERYBODY.

That's another reason why I am NOT for bipartisanship anymore. I'm NOT for having two parties - at least not at the moment, and not for awhile. I think we need as few of the GOP as possible in power positions, because this generation of GOPers is just all about being pissants. I hope we can shove more of them aside next year and lock in a stronger majority in the Senate, and take back the House, so MAYBE we can get a few things done without the interference of constant obstruction - just for pissants' sake.

The World's Biggest Entitlement Program is the GOP's assumption that it is entitled to rule, call the shots, set the agenda, dictate the morality, and own it all. Which is why I think THEY need to be owned (AND pwned, too, dammit!) for at least the next few election cycles. When you're nailed for drunk driving, you forced OFF THE ROAD for awhile. Your driving privileges are REVOKED. I think the same should be done to the republi-CON party. The very ones who are only interested in wrecking things should NOT be allowed into positions of power and authority over those who are needed to rebuild.
