4. And for the record...

Carnival Corp also owns Princess Cruises. Holland America and Seabourn Cruise Lines. Plus at least one other in Europe. All with excellent safety records. They are indeed having a period of terrible luck but these last two fires were accidents and sadly, these things do happen sometimes. The Concordia is another story which is still unfolding. But cruise ship accidents are very rare when you consider the huge numbers of passengers the cruise industry carries every day. And the passengers reported that the crew was magnificent in spite of horribly challenging conditions. Not saying it wasn't horrific for everyone- but the media coverage has been relentless. As someone who works with the cruise industry (not for a cruise line), I hope this does not stop too many people from cruising- it really is a wonderful vacation option many of today's ships (floating hotels) are just amazing. And safe!

6. When they start the inevitable discounts for the next few months, we may take another cruise

Because they really are fun.

5. And no one is mentioning

all the times cruise ship passengers have been treated to the delight of norovirus while cruising. Let's face it, the industry is declining and people like myself who have cruised for 30+ years are no longer interested at any price. And don't get me started on how formerly lovely ports have been ruined by the cheap and overpriced shops popping up on what was once a lovely place.

7. I wonder how these assclowns stay in business.

The Costa Concordia's a total loss - hundreds of millions of dollars worth of ship on its side, destined for the scrapyard.

The Carnival Triumph will be repaired and put back into service, but this incident really gave Carnival a huge PR black eye, and the ship's going to be out of service for weeks, failing to make money the whole time.

How are they not bankrupt?

8. They have 75 other ships

These incidents hurt, but they're not even close to financially difficult.
