2. It's a play on "mooring" as in ship moorings.

3. In their defense...

perhaps the ship ran into a peaty field filled with grasses and sedges and is rather boggy...?

At this point, nothing would be surprising.

4. Maybe this is a dumb question

But I am assuming every passenger will get a refund?

5. Nope. No refunds for those on board. They'll get a voucher for another cruise.

As if.

7. Actually, the company is doing a one-off and refund + voucher

Too bad it takes something this big and visible to get that

13. My cousin works for a law firm hired by Carnival.

They give refunds on a per/customer basis, and usually lawyers working it out.
I'll never set foot on a Carnival ship ever, after hearing the horror stories and the fuck-overs committed by Carnival and the law firm. If its less than a rape-a-day, then its a good day for Carnival, if its more than that the law firm celebrates - lots of extra billable hours.

Reminds me of the "Fight Club" equation

20. Yep...

In response to a suggestion on another thread that passengers had hit the lawsuit lottery, I was accused of being mean-spirited for pointing out that Carnival is entirely structured around dodging liability for just about anything.

As you are aware, the crew aboard a Carnival cruise ship can - literally - rape you, and you have very little recourse, and a long battle ahead if you try.

The rapist is not a US employee, and is subject to a non-US employment agreement. When a crew member rapes a passenger, the employee is dropped off at the next port and their employment with Carnival goes down the memory hole.

8. Lovely

I remember several years ago an airline (that no longer exists today) gave me the run around and took 19 hours to get me from point A to point B (domestic flight). I was never put up in a hotel or given money for food. And no, the weather had nothing to do with this.

I was offered a voucher for another flight in the future as compensation. Of course, the voucher had all kinds of loopholes in the fine print about blackout dates other incomprehensible preconditions, all of which made the voucher essentially worthless.

When I pointed this out to the sniveling little customer service agent he just shrugged.

10. I read they will get a refund plus free hotel rooms in Mobile

and free bus trip to New Orleans and Houston.
Read that yesterday.

Plus they lose all the bookings for the ..I think I read four...future bookings they had to cancel.

Poor Carnival..they might want to take a look at their repair budget.
This is not the first of their ships to lose an engine and make the trip hell for their passengers.
Wasn't it 2 years ago this happened?

24. whatever their cost benefit analysis is, the Alaska cruise that I was thinking about with my friends

...is off.

certainly not on Carnival, but these ships seem to have a weak link.

if you have a small engine fire and then get stranded, but almost immediately lose basic sanitation on the ship --count me out.

that is BS.

21. Plus reimbursement for the cruise they are on now.

Basically they will get 2 cruises (refund on this one, plus voucher for future cruise) $500, transportation to New Orleans or Back to Texas and hotel if they stay overnight in Mobile or New Orleans.

22. why is that good?

They were supposed to have been back 4 days ago. People have probably missed at least a couple days of work because of this.

$500 doesn't seem so hot to me.

30. I was talking about this with my dad. His summary:

They got the luxurious part of the cruise (the incident happened the day before they were to return to port) and then they got camping on the open sea...

...my dad can deal with just about anything.

34. It's funny, because some are complaining and some are saying it hasn't really been that bad.

I guess it depends on stamina. I don't think it wipes it out entirely. I know I personally would not be able to eat if the stench was super horrible--and yet there was a pretty long food line.

I'm just glad everyone is safe.
