What Ted Nugent is trying to do

Ted Nugent has now has accepted an invitation to appear at an official government institution for a traditional address, one of our highest forms of state sanctioned gathering and symbol of civilized government, as a way to repair the anti-government, black-sheep image he so cultivated up until now and which landed him a meeting with the secret service.

When the secret service visited him, Ted Nugent's self image as a representative of America was shattered and now he wants to repair it by stealing President Obama's thunder through sitting in on a State of the Union address like a good little American who thinks he belongs among other civilized states men and women.

But we must not forget who will be sitting in that chamber tomorrow night. Let's not forget who the real Ted Nugent is:

2. I hope he tries to heckle the President

and gets escorted out of the chamber, never to be invited again.

But a case of food poisoning would be welcome too.

6. Well yea

That too.

Goes without saying, really.

But if he wants to play the role of a full on jerk why attend a highly formal gathering where you can't express yourself like an animal?

I still think this is primarily about him restoring his image as a spokesperson for America and a good little American. Spokespersons for America don't get visited by the secret service and that was a blow to his psyche he wants to fix.

8. You think they would object

just based on security concerns.

But from a political perspective, I don't think he should have been given legitimacy by being allowed to attend.

I think the strategy should have been the President and family to politely express discomfort at his attendance.

12. If I was invited, I'd go in a heartbeat.

I would think most people would do the same, including cretins like Nugent. A better question would be: What the hell was the turd who invited him trying to do? Trying to one-up Joke Wilson somehow?

13. Just taking a guess but

my angle on this is the congressman who invited him had to know of Nugent's run in with the secret service and, as a friend, probably knew he felt slighted and injured by the official "reprimand" from the secret service. So he wanted to help his friend restore some of that ego he had lost while simultaneously giving the President the finger.

It's a total insult to invite someone known for being so viciously vocal against the President, and in just in his political statements alone, to a chamber where the last outburst was a total breech of decorum that met with so much controversy. Ted Nugent is the symbol of outbursts and will be nothing but a negative presence in that chamber. His presence adds nothing but emphasis of disunity and division.
